The earlier versions were deleted as they sounded lame.

lol thanks, I know what you mean

I hate it when I rush to record, stop 'cause I run out of time and then realize how many pitch problems that take has...

I'll do a better version, paying more attention to it.

Cheers man!

Ray Alder took Fates Warning up several notches. He was just amazing. I saw him with Fates Warning in Buffallo, NY back in like 2002 - he made the hair stand up on the back of neck.

Me too !

It kind of baffles me that the clean version doesn't come across as it should.. is it that the high notes should have less compression ?

Maybe the over-pronunciation of consonants ? Or maybe it needs more twang to help it sound more powerful and not as "soft" ?

Yeap , great stuff - Arch is one of a kind. His melodies are just ... some would say un-singable (new word?) live, I 'll just say one of my favorite old school vocalists.

If you can, check my previous post , I'm trying to identify what sounds wrong in the clean version of AD.

I do not thing there is anything wrong with the clean version.. I think what you are hearing is either an eq issue, or lack of eq. If you want, send me the 2 files (soundbyte of song and vocals) and i'll mix them and send it back to you. Only thing I hear (other than what I think is EQ related) is how difficult it is to pronounce words way up there. And Ray has / had issues with that live..

Thanks for the response man, it really helps... you know, I kinda cringe when I hear my voice so I loose perspective easily.

And cheers for the mixing , but I mix my vox loud purposely, so as to hear every mistake.

BTW. Who's Hybira?

I would drop some of the 60 hz and some 200 hz out of your vocal mix, your voice is thicker than Rays -

This is awesome ! Haven't heard an exciting riff for way too long and that solo ... my kind of solo playing !

When I saw them doing the "halford/timpton" moves I felt a relief you know.... great music and performance but with respect towards the pioneers of the kind.

Couldn't the singer sing a bit higher ?? lol just kidding !

Great stuff!

PS.

You're absolutely right about the eq... my trusty audient preamp died so it will be a while before I can record with decent quality

I use Cakewalk Sonar Producer 8 - and a 58 mic lol. No external stuff at all, I use the eq plug-in.

That singer is amazing. I can't imagine singing in that range. And with that power. I wonder if he is a real human? LOL
