Im having trouble mainting good tone while trying to sing the F after middle C. What excersises or techniques are good for hitting these notes cleanly.

It feels like im pushing and my throat gets all tight... how do these professional singers hit these notes so effortlessly?

You have to sing the high notes "differently" :) . Exactly how is quite complex and I'd recommend you see a vocal coach, buy a vocal instructional, surf old threads on this forum a lot, and/or post an example of yourself trying to sing the F and failing, so we could help you with your specific problems. In short, you have to use less air, modify the vowels slightly, relax your throat, jaw, facial muscles and shoulder, don't push, but use slightly more breath support effort, allow the tone to resonate in just the right spot in your throat (you'll know where it is when the sound comes more resonant and easier to produce), etc., etc.
