Keith
I downloaded a neat iphone app called "VocalizeU" today.. It has a great set of warmups and exersizes that you can play back - prolly would be good for someone that spends a lot of time driving.. One could plug iphone or ipad into car stereo and sing the stuff. I am not trying to promote anything that isn't Roberts, just saying it seems handy for when ya aren't home and wanna sing some helpful stuff. Maybe someone else should download it (it's free) and check it out and make sure the stuf is worth doing, cause I don't know if it is or is not. Could be worth a look .... gno
I tried to download it but my itunes account is totally messed up. Apple is helping and hopefully I'll be able to down load it soon. My iphone is the perfect voice companion. I've got CVT exercises and KTVA videos loaded on it, all the songs I'm working on, and a virtual keyboard for pitch. Billy Budapest
I have my warmups on my Droid. I toss it in a plastic zip baggie and warmup in the shower. Done it for years. Works great.

Billy Budapest
Just found out this program was designed by Dave Stroud, a protege of Seth Riggs. I've had a few lessons w david over the years in the past. Good dude. His approach is sls, but some like that approach.
Administrator Robert Lunte Posted January 7, 2012 Administrator Share Posted January 7, 2012 Yes, I have had discussions with Dave Stroud about VocalizeU. They invested in some advertising at TMV, some of you may recall about four weeks ago, we ran a newsletter featuring them. Cool idea... mobility is hip and a positive trend As a product developer, my only reservation is... why would I spend $30,000 developing an app. when people can just take my video tutorials and demonstrations from "The Four Pillars of Singing" 2.0 and load them into their device... like guitartrek did? But I don't have the app. so I don't know all it can do for singers... In regards to mobility, I have learned there are two kinds: 1. developing an app. like this,,, expensive. 2. plug-ins that can just turn your web site into a cool mobile UI... very inexpensive and accesible. I will soon be making all TVS web sites and TMV able to display a user friendly mobile interface from smart devices. Not wanting to pitch my product necessarily, if you go to www.thevocaliststudiostore.com , my shopping cart, on an iPhone, android, etc... you can see how the store turns to a mobile interface... cool-factor! doing this to web sites is comparatively easy... but building apps. is big bucks and big risk. Cool to hear Daniel is on there... and Stroud usually does things with a lot of class, so I'm sure its done right.
ronws
Robert, it might be more cost-effective to of course just offer some mp3 files that are easy enough to sync into an i-pod, as well. Then, there's no app development. Just another revenue stream. I likes me some free market capitalism.
Administrator Robert Lunte Posted January 7, 2012 Administrator Share Posted January 7, 2012 Well, I think its a great idea... just seems expensive on the development, I could be wrong... maybe Dave can shed some light... I invited him to come chat with us here.
gno
Robert - That's cool that you're developing the user friendly mobile website for this forum. Whenever I'm not at home I'm frequently checking this website on my iphone, but it gets pretty small to read. I'm going to have to learn how to take my company's web site and turn it into a mobile web site like you did - as opposed to creating a specific app. Then it should work on anyone's mobile phone, not just apple products. D-Stroud
Hi All, VocalizeU is not just designed to be a utility app. I agree that if that is your objective, then there are easier/cheaper ways to reach that objective. The free version of VocalizeU for the iPhone was just a small piece of what the iPad version is. The full version is an eco-system designed to grow and be module. It is part of a larger picture that includes all sorts of ongoing education and social networking while at the same time, protecting the IP of those who have and will contribute to the eco-system. I have not spent the kind of money I have nor am I the type to create anything without a lot of thought. And, thank you Robert for the nice comment (and Stroud usually does things with a lot of class, so I'm sure its done right.) but you are correct. You will see the next steps of VocalizeU and understand my desire to service the singer market. I'll just leave this post with one piece of food for thought - why can you walk into Guitar Center or any other big box retailer and NOT see a "vocalist" or "singer" department sign? Brilliant question Dave regarding the continued ignorance propagated by the majority of the pro audio industry in regards to vocalist products and services. We're "just singers" right? Have you ever had anyone, after explaining what you do for a living in a very impressive way, look to you and say, "... Oh, thats so nice, well are you a musician too?"... as if the voice isn't an instrument? It is a combination of two things: 1). Although it is changing for the better, singing is still not considered to be 'musicianship' and while it seems that the interest in singing would be large, especially if you are hanging out here at the TMV forum, but compared to guitar, bass and drums, there are not as many people that are doing it... well, if they are, they are hacks, pushing chest in some smokey bar. 2). Although this is changing as well, there just simply are not enough products for singers to probably justify the floor space? What do you really have, mics... TC-Helicon pedals, digitech pedals, 1 Roland vocal pedal and... mic stands? I mean its hardly enough inventory to fill a closet. I think the trend is getting better on both points, but singing has a lot of catching up to do in the eyes of Guitar Center management. Cool to have you here Dave... We hope you can find some time to post from time to time and contribute... Those of you who don't know Dave Stroud, he was the #2 guy at SLS and is a real world-class pro, top tier, vocal coach rock star...

I for one am GLAD that you can't walk into Guitar Center and see that... That's all I need: "hey doood, can I help you...? I mean... do I have to?" "Yeah, I'm looking for a singer app" Can you wait till after I finish playing 12 minutes of Eruption? Hey listen to this double tapping technique here dude! WOWWWWWWW" AHGHGH! Keith
Yeah man, everytime I go to guitar center , the place is packed with people grabbing a guitar and playing stairway to heaven.... Imagine now on top of that, singers going in and jumping on a pa and singing Tate or something ... We singers need a sound proof box to work with . Administrator Robert Lunte Posted January 8, 2012 Administrator Share Posted January 8, 2012 No guys, we want more focus on singer's and their needs... but that doesn't change the fact that when my students go in to ask for a microphone, as if on automotron programming, they all say.... mind you, they are not singers... "Ya man, you gotta get the SHURE SM58 man, its the best mic in the world dude, everyone buys it, so that means its the best man...". Barf.
Billy Budapest
Yeah, it'd be nice to have more singer's stuff available- but it would also be awesome if GC was a little more discriminating on who they hire. Same with BestBuy. Ever try to get help there??? YIPES!
