VideoHere
folks, before i post, i just want to say that i sincerely admire these vocalists and mean them absolutely no disrespect. but perhaps it might prove beneficial and therapeutic for us to post vids of singers who are not performing at peak capacity, so we can understand just how fickle and tempermental the vocal instument can be....and rather than beat ourselves up about it, watch it and learn from it. my thanks to jonpall for the idea. here's don barnes as great as he is, displaying some human frailty. but if we're true rockers like he is, "the show must go on." ronws
This is a stellar performance, actually, with just one minor issue, in my opinion. But it goes to show that no one is perfect. Michael goes a little flat on the word "heart" in the beginning. Now, I could have just said he was "pitchy" and needs a vocal coach but really, it was only one spot. The note crashes in other places are, I think, for stylistic effect, rather than a problem. I believe in the live performance and this is how this song should be sung. And I am sure this will hurt some feelings. Let the great wailing and gnashing of teeth begin ...
ronws
Ah, the trials and tribulations of touring. And there is a difference between live and an album. Albums are autotuned. But Kakko is an example of how you roll with the punches in a show. The song is down at least 1/2 step from the album (standard procedure for live shows.) And he is sing less of the high notes and his high notes are not as clean, here. And some note crashes. And if I were to sing this live, this is the emotion and intent that I would go for. That is, there might be some technical singing issues but it is a great live performance. And live, you don't stop and re-record the track for a week or two. You keep on going. Stopping the song is a worse crime than an off-pitch sound on one note, or two. Also, if you look closely at near the beginning when they pan the audience, there's a guy with earplugs in. He looks a lot like Snejk.

jonpall
Perhaps it was slightly sharp. But like Ron says, it's live, so minor flaws don't really matter. If he was consistantly out of tune and weak sounding, that would be another matter.
Snejk
Oh Tony! He never fails to make it a show ;D Also, the song is actually in original key in that live clip :}~ As I said before, Tony doesn't posess the same range as he used to, not in his clean register. He strained too much mainly back in Ecliptica days... Also, that guy who I looked like? Hah! I look far more like a girl to be honest xD
rofleren
I think that the only similar feature is the glasses :D
Snejk
Hah! The glasses, indeed! Anywho, I don't think there is even one singer who's launched a fault-free performance. Even good old Freddie hit some sketchy notes once in a while, bless his soul :
MB20
My teacher showed me this a while ago. I feel for the guy.. Not sure where this is from or who this is, but apparently it's from a live recital. Proof that even the classically trained are not safe! mwhaha! Snejk
Regarding Kiske... ;D His reaction to it; prizeless xD EDIT: MB20, wow!! I couldn't stop laughing!!! Hahahah!!! Wow, tough break though.. Image standing there in front of a crowd of thousands and having that crack and it's just.. Back up on the horse... Ouch!

Marcus
Extensive touring can really take it's toll on singers. Bon Jovi is an example, here's Livin' On A Prayer where he let's the audience and the band sing most of the choruses (also I believe there's some pre-recorded voices for the chorus "choir"). His voice sound really tired, also in the verses. Not an easy song to sing, especially if you're having an off day.
Snejk
I don't think Bon Jovi has ever sung the high part of the chorus live xD Also worthy of mention is that Richie Sambora is ten times the vocalist that Bongiovi is :
Mr Bounce
Hey as far as I am concerned, that is a killer performance! :D
basil
Hey it happens I'm not defending anyone, but as soon as you start running around and doing the rock star thing your going to change your breathing and then it's all down hill from there. The singers that just stand there and sing usely have the best results, but it's gets boring. It's always a trade off between being a singer and an entertaining frontman. :)
Marcus
Never said I didn't like the performance, but he do sound very tired vocally compared to what he can sound like when he's on peak performance. Good point about doing the rock star thing on stage basil! There's also a trade off in partying after shows and being able to sing on the next one. The voice can't take too much abuse, be it colds or alcohol or too little sleep :P
Snejk
"The voice can't take too much abuse, be it colds or alcohol or too little sleep " Or singing for that matter! Muscles and tissue needs rest to recover and the greater the effort, the longer the rest. Perfect technique doesn't make muscles immune to fatigue and wear ;)
forest_gimp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knCfTlOLpW0&feature=related This is a live version of Who Made Who. I am a big fan of Brian Johnson, but in this clip, you can really see him struggling. The first kickass line of this song sounds completely flat and strangled. VideoHere
can you imagine what is going through bobby kimball's mind as he sings this? a top rock vocalist? and yet listen to the applause, because i guess they retain a memory of how great he is otherwise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o05BPuY6ylY&feature=related

slstone
agreed on the Tate thing. I am also a big Queensryche fan, but that seemed like a scene from hollywood week on american idol. A bit of a train wreck, lol. See? We all suck from time to time.
VideoHere
sometimes you just have to risk it, but some know how to quickly compensate and regain while others seep out disappointment. let's face it, we're bound to screw up from time to time. Everyone gets to "party" except the singer.
