srs7593
Take it easy, sing as lightly as you need to. Feel free to change some intervals if needed. It's a lot of the same thing over and over which can cause fatigue, so don't be afraid to play with phrasing or mix it up. It's ok to be sloppy and bluesy as long as it's tasteful. You can make it as hard or as easy as you want.

bigfoot
hey bob all i can say is try starting right (light).. the first line is a b***h to get right.. stay in a light heady mix through the song. increasing weight will cause chaos. the chorus and the interlude parts are easy enough.. its the beginning of the verses to watch out for. Try and record the performance!! i want to hwar/ see. cheers, am sure you'll rock it
Nicogratouille
Hej, I've sung it live at jam sessions and such a couple of times. But I don't know how I did it.... Some days you feel like you can sing anything, so I just went for it and it worked . On other days I'm sure I wouldn't be able to pull it off. I'm terribly inconsistent... I second srs7593's advice on not putting too much weight and playing a little around with phrasing if needed. Robert Plant often phrases differently live, and I guess it's to make it easier for him to sing it. Well good luck! It's a tough one to sing. Btw: what kind of show is it? WebAndNet.com
Just saw a Led Zepplin Youtube video and agree Robert Plant live never sounded nearly as good as on record. Have to remember, the sound engineer for Led Zepplin was a true innovator and one of the best ever.
Guest
So how did it go? Wasn't it last night?
Nathan
I did it a couple of months back... http://themodernvocalist.punbb-hosting.com/viewtopic.php?id=3132 Looking back on it, there are so many things I'd do differently now as compared to back then... Might have to go over it again sometime. Absolute beast of a song and I commend anyone for trying it.
jonpall
Here's my attempt, during band practise (I've posted it before): One tip would be to NOT PUSH the tone but let it resonate high in your head with as relaxed throat as possible. Resonance over pushing. You can add extra intensity and feel for a bit of a rock tone/rasp if you want but if you feel that you're pulling chest too much, be ready to pull back a bit on the volume and try to recover on the spot. I think it might help to practise sirens at home where the top note is sustained and you say random words. Good luck man!
VideoHere
i dropped it a half and completely winged it last night. ken said the secret is to release the tension every chance you get, and try to demphasize the consonants as much as possible and move the jaw as little possible. it was really tough. here's a new one i'm learning for the next week, which is "one hit wonder" night jonpall, you're gonna love the rasp on this guy's vocal. i'll stick to singing cleaner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMRKMf6_WY8&feature=related
jonpall
Yeah you're right Bob - I really liked that clip Right up my alley. Powerful, emotional and with slight, smokey rasp. Interesting tips from Ken. Were you happy with your performance?
ronws
I've sang that song and jonpall's advice is best. All I can say is go light and resonate (hit your pockets.) And, since part of that song is in the passagio, hold the air back. What you think is a small note comes out louder than you think. Of course, I may be a day late and dollar short. This thread went fast and I've been so busy lately. Oh well. "Way down inside, woman, you needed ......Love!"
