Guest
He has some of what I like in vocals. My influences are Gregg Allman, Joe Cocker, Ray Charles, guys like that for sound as well as phrasing. I sometimes like a little Paul Butterfield and Steve Winwood too when it comes to phrasing. I think he has some of that in his voice. Lee was good. :)
ronws
I've been wanting to watch AI because of Steven Tyler being a judge. And I should catch up on episodes. But it just hasn't been the same since Adam Lambert. Granted, he was a ringer, of sorts, having had a number of years in theater. But jeez, what a voice. Yet the other guy one and he was shocked, too. And of course, there is the first winner, Kelly Clarkson from Burleson, TEXAS. (South of Fort Worth, west and south of Dallas.) The voice is more about the voice, as far as I can see, though it is about personality and flash, to some extent. AI is about the production, the show factor. I may be wrong. onprcntr
I am forced to watch this drivel if I am to be in the same room with my wife. I actually do like Elise this year and the girls mostly are very good. I am not a fan of Joshua or Philip though. Joshua does too much showboating for someone I think is good not great. Philip does some things I like but he isn't technically great and I see the Dave Mathews influence way too much. I think the problem I have with the show is how full of crap the judges can be. I do feel that Philip and Elise are there to sing and not be a whore though like many others. Some of those people would do ANYTHING the producers tell them. jonpall
It is still a bit ironic that most of the people here are looking to extend their range and perfect their high notes when a guy with the lowest voice won last AI and it looks like the guy with the deepest voice is going to win this season as well But I have the feeling that if you DON'T go on a reality show (that's most of us), you'll have more career opportunities and probably do better overall if you can showcase some high, dramatic notes at least now and then. What do you think?
VideoHere
to me a singer should have a well developed voice. he should be able to sing low notes, high notes, soft, loud, and anywhere in between.... it's his craft. in the same way a bodybuilder needs to have all the muscle groups developed. slstone
Personal opinion, this year is like 2 years ago. A snoozefest. To me, Adam Lambert and James Durbin set a different and higher standard. Not just just in range and ability, but in performance as well. Each performance of these 2 was phenomenal. It shocked the crap out of me last year when James comes out singing a Judas Priest song. It was the first time ever that AI let a contestant perform a metal song. Even cooler when they brought Priest in for the finale. To me, this year, instead of the coffeehouse singers from 2 years ago, are mostly lounge singer types. They sent home the one rocker (Erika Van Pelt). Maybe next year will be better. onprcntr
A true "rocker" would wipe his butt the yellow ticket and walk away. They ARE lounge singers. They don't appear to care enough about singing/music only image. It's their fast track to fortune and fame and I just don't think I would be able to do it. The horrible songs they make them sing and the group torture. Just once I'd like someone to just have testicular fortitude to say this is bs screw you guys I'm going home. The jazzy guy that played the drums earlier this season was my favorite because he refused to be pushed around.
ronws
I like to remember that judge Steven Tyler never competed in a thing like AI. He got out there and sang at restaurants around the Maine area, at first. Anywhere they didn't run off the band he and Joe started. Paying dues. Coming up with what you think is comfortable, not what some coach thinks is right for Broadway or whatever. And winning doesn't guarantee success. And losing doesn't guarantee failure. Or vice versa. I like what you said, onprcntr (one percenter?). Side trivia and I cannot stop myself. Many moons ago, the american motorcycle association estimated that one percent of all motorcyle riders were not members of their org. Years later, the FBI commandeered this number to describe the number of motorcycle clubs that were engaged in criminal activity. And some clubs wore that designation with pride, including a "1%'er" patch on their rags. But, I think, a group can use that number to set themselves apart from others. For example, the recent "occupy" protesters call themselves the 99 %. Which makes me a 1 % percenter because I am too busy working to hang around a bank building griping at the bank that gave me a loan to go to college. Others' mileage may vary. End of trivial tangent. onprcntr
it was inspired by outlaw biker legend. It became my standard internet handle. I work my ass off but I've got no where near enough money to be anywhere near the upper one percent. I can appreciate taking the chance at success but no way would I sell my integrity for 15 minutes of fame.
ronws
Cool, I've been friends with some clubs but never a member. But I still like motorcycles and consider myself a motorcycle enthusiast. If I were to belong to a club, it would be one that I have heard of in New Hampshire called the Re-Treads. The requirement is that you have to be over 40. I've qualified for several years. One local club I know is the Brotherhood of the Third Wheel. I see the pres riding around on a yellow Trike with his grandson. It's all about riding and enjoying the ride, for me.
