When I drink a Nos energy drink in the morning it helps my voice Tremendously! It may just be a tempory fix but has anyone else tried this? Give it a try and tell me how it works for you. Its an acidic drink so i wonder if it kinda mite help the same way suckin on a lemon does.

It probably helps loosen up your chords and throat. It's hard for someone to identify if their voice is being sluggish, but it can always be solved. The main factor is your posture. When you slump, even the tiniest bit, your vocal chords slump too. there are exceptions, but they most likely have had much practice to get over this. It's also good to have proper diaphragm support.

Even though drinking nos may be a temporary fix, I wouldn't recommend it at all, simply because it speeds up your blood flow, and whatever the other stimulants do to your system.

The stimulants in energy drinks, as a general rule, work as diuretics & so your vocal cords will fatigue more quickly after drinking ... at the very least drink an equal amount of water, and if sound seems thin in any way after 30 min or so, DONT try to compensate with more force, pushing/squeezing. Instead, rehydrate, wait a couple hours, and start warm-up over again.

You can probably train yourself to respond with the same enthusiasm to a diluted version of the Nos drink, & gradually dilute more and more; its been proven that coffee drinkers can feel perky from just smelling the beans & drinking water.

I like a caffeine jolt as much as anyone, and won't deny sipping a small amount of energy blasters when I go to the gym.

But relying on chemicals or whiskey or ANYTHING to make your voice work -- anything other than technique, regular practice, and clean living -- weakens your confidence in the long run.

cheers from your dutiful party-pooper;),

If I have no caffeine whatsoever I cant sing in mix voice well at all! I have been tryin to quit energy drinks just for general health reasons and voice but with just straight water during the day I feel draggy! I guess im somewhat addicted to caffeine. Even a mountain dew helps my voice! It makes my throat way smoother feeling!! Is there anything wrong with this if it works for me?? I do try to drink a lot of water as well!

As long as your aren't drinking a liter of soda a day or something ridiculous where you will get diabetes..

What isn't working for you is your mixed voice. You lack tons of important technique, which makes you habitually stuck to your chest voice(I'm assuming this). It's up to you, if you decide to drink caffeine to sing, it will take the exact same amount of time to develop mixed, than if you just sing on your own with no caffeine.

if you really want to accelerate your mixed voice, the key is technique, but not everyone can get the proper guidance they need. So without the subject prior mentioned, you need to have patience.

caffeine makes muscles constrict a little so it might be making your cords a little more tense/stiff & able to go higher in chest, than when you're chem-free. Just like alcohol helps people genuinely relax and care a little less about screwing up. Chemicals are real, the dangers are from over use, and effects elsewhere in body if you use too much.

In my purist/idealist moods I recommend doing the spiritual work to accept what our bodies& minds do naturally -- but am not so pure myself all the time (6AM getting ready for clinic job, I definitely have caffeine!). So I'd say just be mindful of any temptations to use more & more for increased effect, you could build up real strain, otherwise don't worry ...
