ronws
Probably just my own ears but I think you should eq your vocal track a little differently so that I can hear your voice better. Not necessarily more volume, just sharper, as it were.
Guest
Some tracks come out low and some louder, I still haven't figured out why. I have been playing with the controls track to track. Maybe at some point I'll get the hang of this Well, I'm not even sure how much it matters. I'm not getting responses to my songs other than you. Hopefully it's lack of interest in my song choices or my bad recordings and not my singing :D
Keith
I can only listen on my computer, not my iPhone . So when I'm around my laptop. I listen to your stuff. The only critique I have is that sometimes you alsound like your pulling Chest voice up too high, and the note you are singing gets pitchy because of it. As far as recording, I wish you ha cakewalk I'm good at cakewalk. (and pro tools)

As far as recording, I wish you ha cakewalk I'm good at cakewalk. (and pro tools) I have another program that came with my interface called Cubase. However at this point I don't know how to use it and can't (or am unwilling) to take the time to learn it since I'm already in the learning curve of Audacity. I'd rather keep moving forward than to stop and start over at this point. at least for the time being. RE: Chest voice/pitchyness. I hear the pitch issues on most of my recordings but attribute them to just being off pitch rather than issues of pulling chest or straining etc. On songs where I go off pitch I find that on the particular backing track I can't seem to find the pitch (in the off spot) on "that" track. Where as when I go back to the original song I'm ok. Some of these tracks are just a touch different and they are throwing me off. So I think it's on me and my ear and getting in sink with an odd backing track rather than a technique issue. At least I think so But you may be right and it's worth my looking into. I do know that when I go to high I sometimes go sharp (I think I go sharp ). However, aside from the recording issues and the song vocals being low on this recording, I really liked it and thought I was on pitch throughout. I thought pitch wise, This was one of the best I've posted. But I could be wrong. See? others hear different. The odd thing about it is that maybe my ears are either really good or really bad. When I am hearing off pitches and trying to point them out, no one else is hearing it. When I don't hear them someone else is. My wife is very critical when I sing. I was chosen one time to perform a song on stage for a show. I had two days to learn a song, lyrics and all that I never sang or even knew before other than the title. I hated it when it was done and I have a CD of the performance. Terrible! I hate watching it so never do. Yet others like it. Even my wife , who hears everything, says it wasn't bad and doesn't hear the pitch spots. Even when I point out spots and saying "you don't hear that?" They look at me puzzled. So I'm starting to get confused.. Thanks Keith :)
ronws
Jonpall, I think, uses Cubase. Pick his brains. From what I can hear, it is a better software than Audacity. The reason I was asking for a better mix is that, for me, it would make it easier to hear if you are off pitch, or not. Because it could very well be an artifact of whatever mixing you are doing now that makes something sound off or whatever, rather than an actual technical singing issue. That's why I haven't said anything about pitchy spots. I may not be hearing correctly and I can only hear what the file ended up mixing itself to sounding, when you export. Little hint. Take the backing track. Click on eq. Choose acoustic. choose flat line. then lower, not raise, around 2 kHz. This will notch the backing track at the those frequencies and should drop your voice right in the middle of it. The problem could be other instruments producing sounds at the freq that are competing with and obscuring your voice. By the way, I like your song choice, whether it matches your voice, or not. It's easy to compare to the original singer. It's more appropriate, I think, to listen to your voice and not care about the original. In which case, and I think so in your case and this song, your voice type is very dissimilar to the original singer, which, I should hope, will cut down on comparing you to him. pmac
Hey Tommy, I am not a vocal expert so cant really comment on any technical issues as some of the others can but i liked the song and i like your bluesy tone.I agree about the mix though your vocal didn't seem to cut through but it looks like your in the middle of learning how to record so keep going it will get there. Cheers Paul

I usually pick songs I like. Not songs I feel I can imitate. I'm not looking for big notes either. I'm more into feel and texture as well as tone. I don't usually attempt to sound like the original. That has already been done and you can go out and buy the original CD to hear that.....or youtube I'm trying to sound like me. But I think you know this already Ron Thanks bro @ Paul (pmac) Hey Tommy, I am not a vocal expert so cant really comment on any technical issues as some of the others can but i liked the song and i like your bluesy tone.I agree about the mix though your vocal didn't seem to cut through but it looks like your in the middle of learning how to record so keep going it will get there. Cheers Thanks Paul Technical issues are something that is a work in progress. And although it matters, what matters first (to me) is that if I get up on stage right now, would people like my singing. With the technical stuff my singing will (hopefully) get better and they will like it more. But I don't want to be getting up there now and not sounding good. Sounding the best I can is another story....like I said, hopefully that will come with work And yes, I'm in the dreaded learning curve of recording, and it's a bitch. I'm really not a techno guy. Thanks again for the comment.
Keith
Sounds great man. Also sounds like you are getting more comfortable with the whole recording mixing process. Give yourself some EQ . Adding a little 8K and 2K will brighten your voice up a little. Just don't over do it.
