What exercise can you do for "staccato singing"?

A lot of metal vocalists use this kind of "staccato singing" well that's what I'll call it because that's what it sounds like. They sing a bunch of words quickly, it kind of gives you a machine gun idea... Worst of all I can't even think of a good example right now. When you try this type of effect you can actively feel your diaphragm contracting... I think the type of respiratory exercises is the best for that, but I wonder if you can tweak that recite the alphabet respiratory exercise used by TVS a little and you can maybe rather use like the phonetic alphabet, and sing the phonetic alphabet increasing the pitch of the next word in the phonetic alphabet by a semi-tone... Any ideas how you can practice that type of effect...
