VideoHere
folks, can i ask you all a favor? everyone is busy writing dissertations about vocal technique, (and i for one am very apprecaitive of your vocal acumen) but i have yet to hear the fruits of your labor. for those of you who haven't posted vocals, either a complete song or just a snippet or two, can we hear your voices? i'm sure we can all learn from hearing actual examples. the posts are sometimes so long and technical i don't have the time to read them as much as i'd like to, but hearing the applications from the authors would be very helpful. VideoHere
hey martin, beeeeeeeeuuuuuuteeful...very, very, nice... teach me here, is that performance considered effortless to you, or would you say you need to put out the power and support to make that sound so nice? if i were attempting to sing that song i'd be very loud. CentreOfTheUniverse
nice rob, really well done. let's go... some more of you now....snaxx? you're great...center of the universe?....never heard you....analog?...c'mon...if you guys can write like you do...you must sing really well been busy. having a understanding of how the voice works doenst always translate to being a great singer. i have heard that quite a good deal of vocal science types and teachers out there dont always have the best voices or vocal ability. although i am neither a teacher or a vocal scientist there are indeed some aspects of the voice that i have a better understanding of than my ability to actually perform. im not a 100% where i want to be vocally yet and i certainly havent yet mastered some aspects that i would like to but heres where im at at the moment. its a rough home demo recording over a song of a band i know. http://www.box.net/shared/7t7ffyb487
gno
Hi, I am new here....but here I am doing a live song back in August/09. Michele Nice Job! Sounds really good - is that all chest voice, or are you mixing head in there? Great twang - belt on the whole song.

jonpall
So far I've listened to Robert Lunte and Martin H. Great voices, guys! And Robert, that was a cool song. I especially liked the guitars, being a guitar player myself as well :)
Administrator Robert Lunte Posted December 12, 2009 Administrator Share Posted December 12, 2009 Thanks, here is something else I did about a year ago... in 2010 I plan to release a lot more new stuff... got my new home studio fired up and ready to rip. https://www.box.net/shared/static/qp20j17rgu.mp3 And here is something more lyrical. https://www.box.net/shared/static/zdt4cqvlqj.mp3 Here is something real proggy. https://www.box.net/shared/static/b60aq5ke5z.mp3
gno
Robert - Your music is very powerful and of course the vocals are excellent! I like the way you can just go up an octave every once and a while. The music production is really great - did you master these in your home studio or did you send these out? I too like the way the guitars are processed.

Thanks man... these were collaborations with different producers and projects... all were recorded at Synergy Productions in Seattle with Jason Shavey, my long time producer friend. Jason has a profile page here on TMV main page and you should reach out and say hi... http://www.themodernvocalist.com/profile/JasonShavey?xg_source=profiles_memberList The great thing about Jason is he has a unique experience, because of working with me and my students here in Seattle, of recording vocals on top of pre-mastered bed tracks... Sure he does full bands... but also really understands singers and how to get a great vocal mix... you can have him mix your vocals remotely if you like... just reach out to him. The "nocturne" (lyrical) tune was a band project... but the other two songs were me just singing over a mastered bed track a Synergy... we used some of the TC-Helicon processing as well... I think the production could still be better... I would like to have more doubling or thickening in the vocals , it seems a margin "thin" to me and would like to fatten it up... but overall, its decent-good.... so,, no, not my home studio... but going forward into 2010, I believe it will be... my set up right now is the M-AUDIO profire, Reaper software and I have two mics... the RODE NT1A and the EV Cardinal... I have discovered that my voice sounds best on the EV Cardinal I think... jury is still out, but the Cardinal tends to take my "thinner" overtones and round them out a bit more... Listen to the different tracks and tell me what you guys think... Id be interested to get your opinions... not, "hey Rob I think your a microtone flat at 3:19"... im interested on the production and sound of the vox as related to these mics... would be interesting study. So just for interest... "lord of Saddness" was recorded with the EV-Cardinal. http://www.amazon.com/Electrovoice-301856000-Electro-Voice-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B000E4GFD8 "Bowed in Disgrace" & "Assimilation" were recorded with the Chameleon Labs TS2 http://www.clmics.com/TS2.htm "Nocturne" (the slower/lyrical song) was recorded with a RODE NTK http://www.rodemic.com/microphone.php?product=NTK

Jens
Ok here's two of my songs, one is the song wich demonstrates my first big vocalbreakthrough. This is a rerecording of that song, the other is a song where i sing in a complete diffrent manner much lower and growly. On both songs my mate Marcus of this forum also sings, a great singer! http://www.speedyshare.com/files/19769044/Cheap_Superheroes_-_The_Kiss_Of_Death-01.mp3 I noticed a huge improvement on my voice on this song after the many great advices Martin has given me! Marcus sings the second verese and parts of the stick. http://www.speedyshare.com/files/19769117/Cheap_Superheroes_-_Never_Be_Alive__Sabaton_Tribute_.mp3 second song, marcus sings all the highparts and showing of some of his low baritonal sounds on the chourus while im in the growlmode. Feel free to comment and give tips ;)
joshual
@videohere Finally i can hear it ;-). I would love to have your vibrato, as far as i know i just don't have any lol... Sure you do it a lot better than me. I think you have a really great voice ;-) Maybe you can get better results if you try more to speak the song than to sing it. It may fit more the style ;-). Your voice seems to be especially good for style like progressive rock, did you ever try some dream theater songs, sure it'll fit you well. Anyway, browsing youtube i fell on some unvaluable tracks ( lol ) These are acapella tracks. Here's one Black hole sun by Chris Cornell himself. Tons of things you can't here on the record. I didn't think he was putting so much power and support in it. That can be a cool thing if some Maestros here could help analyze some songs with that youtube thing ( theres a lot of songs like that) See you
