In terms of what is happening physically inside the body while singing, what is the difference between: increasing pitch without changing volume increasing volume without changing pitch What is the relation of the above two to vocal cord/fold vibration? Negoba Posted September 6, 2012 Share Posted September 6, 2012 Amplitude vs. Frequency. As a guitarist (and brass player before that), I always think of tubes and string first. If you tighten the string, the pitch goes up, but hitting it harder only changes the volume. Pitch requires a laryngeal muscle to tighten. Volume should come from the air source.
