Does anybody know what kind of technique he is using here to get this very "girly" tone? At times, if you close your eyes you can almost be fooled into thinking its a woman singing. Another guy that does this that confuses me alot is Nick Patera......

Any ideas guys?

Ever hear of a man named Mel Blanc? Ever watch Bugs Bunny? Some people can just manipulate their voices and make them sound any way they want. I don't think he's using any different technique in either 'mode'. Just can go there.........

IMHO..

In Hawaiian music there is a strong tradition of male falsetto singing, and a few of them are known for the very feminine quality of their voices. Mahi Beamer is one, here's a sample:

In particular, listen to the last few seconds where he soars. Learning what I have from you folks her on the forum, I really need to listen back to some of these folk, as I do believe some are using falsetto and others head voice.

Its obviously neutral, but how does he make it sound so feminine, not to metion the apparent volume? Are they just simply that skilled at coloring their voice? If so how are the coloring it?

Drew77: IMO he's just doing things in the same way that a female singer would be... using regitration and resonance adjustments in the same manner.

What I hear listening to this singer is well-adducted, thin-fold phonation, and with a laryngeal height that shortens the vocal tract to be similar to that of a female singer. This causes all the resonances to shift upward into the same frequency regions as where they would be for a female singer.

Then, he is singing vowels with the same pronunciation that would be used by a female singer for this song.

Right...so what I said only in technical terminology. :) No difference in the usage in the modes...he can just go there!

Either click the quote button in the bottom right corner of the post you want to quote, or copy it all, then paste it. Then make sure its all selected (blue box around the sentence you're quoting) and press the button "quote" to the left of the "Youtube" button in the row of buttons right above the box where one types.

i woud say he has a major skill with falsetto, coupled with a natural sweet feminine - soundng vocal timbre endowment he can call up to use as needed.

also, i think if you really seriously consentrate on acting and visualizing yourself a female vocalist, you can place yourself there phycologically to a degree.

and the sames goes for females if gifted can sound masculine..janis joplin!!
