Snejk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QjXaqLrQOE I still have as much scene personality as a dried tomato... First; The singing, this song for example, the first chorus I get by great, I can sing the "ee" vowel in "makes me jump,..." without any problem... But the more I sing and the following choruses that note gets hard as hell and wobbly so I have to sing "mey" instead for the tone not to shake/break... Why is that? I'm thinking some sort of constriction? I can get by it with the 'ee' vowel if I sing more breathy but I want a full tone... Second; What the HELL can I do on stage? T_T In solos I stand and look like an idiot, smiling and looking to the roof In one song I tried to dance with the mic stand, when down into full splits and some antics and I FELT SO OUT OF PLACE!!!! It felt SOOO awkward and I still get the chills thinking about that moment x_X What the hell.. Any kind of feedback regarding anything in the video or that I posted would be great.. Thanks in advance :
jonpall
Ian Gillan went on the bongo drums during solos I suggest you just take a look at some of your favorite singers and see what they do. Or just take a sip of water. Or just nod your head up and down. Or just dance on stage like there's no tomorrow.

analog
Snejk, you sound great man! I was the worst front man for the longest time The first step to getting better (for me) was to quit taking any of it too seriously. I gave myself permission to mess up and not care. You may want to look at it as a detachment from your "real" self. I think this applies to any genre no matter how "serious" the art. Also, If you are struggling vocally, good luck having a good time onstage. The biggest buzz kill for me is having bad monitor mix or struggling with songs outside of my current abilities. If you are not having fun...people can feel that. Other than that...Jonpall had great suggestions. With your kind of music...I would watch Spinal Tap or something(not saying you sound like them.) Find a way to parody yourself or your genre. Even if you don't use any of it onstage...the ability to see it in a fun, light-hearted manner will help you overcome nerves or stiffness. I have ripped off practically every move the Dan Band does, and even if people don't know what I'm doing, it always makes me laugh my ass off while I'm doing it. joshual
there's a proverb i know i'l try to translate. A wrong note sung shily is a wrong note, a wrong note sung with the heart is interpretation. To resume no matter what you do, do it with passion and confidence and everything will be allright!
jonpall
Or you can do what I do most of the time, continue playing my guitar (rythm under the other guitar player's solo) or play the solo myself. Problem solved Seriously, I understand your problem. I go through the same thing myself. I think the biggest thing is not to care what the audience thinks of you and kind of try to feel that you're the king of the world and you can do anything. Maybe you want to take dancing lessons? Don't forget that you're a strong singer, though.
analog
joshual, A wrong note sung shily is a wrong note, a wrong note sung with the heart is interpretation. that reminds me of a wonderful book by the jazz pianist Kenny Werner: http://www.amazon.com/Effortless-Mastery-Liberating-Master-Musician/dp/156224003X I would recommend it to any artist(regardless of the art form.) Snejk
Thanks a bunch for the replies guys!! People tell me that good singing belongs in the studio and that for a live gig it's all about the performance and not singing in key/grabbing the high notes... But uhm... I would like to improve my singing so muuuuuuuch compared to this and I don't see why you shouldn't sing awesome on stage... I've been watching some Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica... He is very silly on-stage, something I love... Sometimes I feel like lying down and watch the horizon with my hand shading my eyes like an epic captain... But I just take myself too serious on stage :C
