Jose Carreras http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azl8o0VuCFE

8:31 through 8:46.

In this passage, his vibrato is so loose and resonant on that high note.

Placido Domingo

3:31 - 3:52

In Placido's version his vibrato is much shallower and faster on the high note.

Why the difference in vibrato's up on that high note? Who's do you prefer?

And in CVT terms - are they Curbing up there?

Hi Guitartrek,

For me the vibrato changes the louder I try to be. If I'm in neutral ( I guess) and just sing....high...head voice or full voice, the vibrato is easily controlled. But the louder I try to be, in any mode, the faster my vibrato gets. I can control my vibrato in an operatice scenario but if I'm singing ROCK and trying to modify the sound, then my vibrato goes faster. I don't know the explanation.

Both of those men are great!

That's interesting Michele - I guess I'm in the same boat as you, except when I go high it's harder for me to control it and it tends to be shallower. As I get more comfortable up in the high range it seems to be loosening up. It's interesting to see the differences between these two great singers. They are both fantastic and so different.

hi guitartrek, i'm far from an expert (steve f. chime in) but the vibrato is produced diaphramically in video one. i always include those "ha, ha, ha ha, ha" diaphragm exercises, the ones that pulsate your diaphragm to help keep the diaphram pumping. i try, notice i say try (lol) to have any vibrato i "may" get originate from the diaphragm and not the throat. hope i've helped.
