UPDATE: According to Blabbermouth.com, Ronnie’s wife has issued this statement:

“I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing

good, but he is not dead.

“I will let you know if anything changes.

“Thank you for your concern.”

Damn it would have been a sad day if it was true.

It's confirmed now on the official page of Dio by his wife. A great loss for all us hard rock fans but his music will live on forever. He is one of my favourite hard rock singers of all time and the man still sang great at 67!!!!

Damn this sucks! I had the absolute honour of meeting him and shaking his hand at a truck stop years ago when his tour bus stopped in at the same stop my band mates and I did. He was really cool to chat with and he signed my Dio shirt which unfortunately some @#$% stole at a party not long afterwards. R.I.P. Ronnie, you are greatly missed.

Really? That is really sad. Godspeed to "The Man on The Silver Mountain"... hmm thought provoking...

"Stargazer" is quite frankly the best Dio vocal tracks of all time...

These early hammersmith gig recordings are great, instruments are mixed down way too low so all you hear is Ronnie, which is the way it should be! Naked vocals, can almost hear his breath, nothing to hide behind. Good example of good sense of time in vocals in the 3rd one, Slipping Away. Probably not the easiest thing to do when you're fronting the not very funky Black Sabbath heh

I heard this sad news last Monday morning on the way to work. I work with a team of guys young enough to be my children, or I am old enough to be their father, however you look at it. So, I couldn't really share the sadness at work.We are electricians and they wouldn't understand what it means.

Dio had the most distinctive voice. Though, in rock music, he wasn't singing traditional bel canto, his moves and stage presence and even choice of costumes was operatic.

This small, italian guy with the huge voice was also a humble man and carried himself with grace and dignity.

I have an album called "Not the same old song and dance." It is many bands and artists covering the songs of Aerosmith. Ronnie James Dio did "Dream On." He could have easily hit that high note, and cleaner and sharper than Steven Tyler did. But he did not. He backed off of it and let it remain Tyler's note. That is strength of character.

He showed grace and good taste when he reunited with the core members of Black Sabbath and they toured and recorded under the name Heaven and Hell so that Black Sabbath will always refer to Ozzy.

At one time, Pat Boone, an early rock and roll singer turned christian singer, wanted to do something totally out of character. His drummer suggested heavy metal. So he did an album called In a Metal Mood. One of the songs on there was "Holy Diver." Normally, Boone was taking metal songs and turning them into big band jazz numbers. Example, "Panama" by Van Halen became a bouncy rhumba. "Holy Diver," however, couldn't be changed and he kept the orginal meter, adding a lovely violin intro and outro. The day that Boone was recording the vocals for it was Dio's birthday. He knew it was being recorded and showed up and sang back-up to his own song. If you ever hear Pat Boone's version of "Holy Diver" and you hear the whoops and ows in the background, that is Dio, singing back-up to Pat Boone. Priceless.

We have been blessed to have his presence with us for so long.

Grazi a Dio por RJ Dio.

In memory of this immortal man, we are planning to do a big tribute show in our city. Yesterday was the first practice and audition of 3 singers. We did Diver, Don't Talk to Strangers, Rainbow in the dark and temple of the king to start with. What amazed me was that NONE of the singers were close to Dio. These people are singing in bands and one of them can easily cover Zeppelin, but even he came quite short when it came to capturing Ronnie's magic. Then upon close inspection I now realize that Dio had so many unique features to his voice that its just almost near to impossible to achieve it. The weight, the agression, the opera, the grandeur of that voice! I dont know how to put it, but he does this strange thing on some phrases where it just feels like he is coming at you out of your speakers. His high notes had amazing power beneath them - I don't know how he managed this. Other singers can do those notes and even higher but never with the OOOMPHH that Dio threw at you.

I saw them all falling short of reaching Dio's voice. True testament of what a great singer he was.

Rest in Peace, man on the silver mountain.

My hubby, one of the best drummers I have ever heard, cut his teeth on Peart, passed away on mothers day, and is now jamming with Dio. His fav genre, one of his favorite Dio songs (for vox) was Dreamer.

I am so sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences to you Pam. May he rest in peace.
