Light mass onsets

Hey guys, I guess I could also just email Rob this question, but I feel there may be some unique/unconventional ways fellow board members have that could help.

After resting my voice because of my inability to sing at my highest range (like E5+), I have started training again. I have started training using Pillars Warm up and foundation routine, both because I want to restrain from any kind of "pushing" to rehab my voice and because I've really fallen in love with that "floating" sensation you get from deep, heady placements.

Now I think all of the onsets are great (and I think I have to agree with Rob on this one... dampen and release is my fave  ) , but is just doing the track and release onset with "cry/fry" the only light mass onset? I like light mass phonations because they aren't as tiring, and it really keeps me away from belting. It seems like all of the others are designed to strengthen or get more of a "belt" like sound going. Wind and release has some potential, except it's recommended (and I do it this way) to use appogio, which is quite the opposite of light mass haha.

Why not just stick with cry/fry? IMO it is the best light mass onset, and one of the better onsets of the bunch in general.

You could do wind and release or track and release lightly. But I like fry best because it allows you to gain a great balance of connectivity and flexibility while in a light mass coordination

Hey thanks Owen, yeah I make sure to still always include cry/fry, I was just curious if I could somehow combine my favorite onsets (like dampen and release) with cry/fry etc.
