keoladonaghy
Aloha all. I underwent a septoplasty procedure this past Tuesday to address airway blockage and extreme (according to the wife) snoring issues. It went well, and doc indicated that I should be able to get back to my normal voice workouts in a week or so. Unfortunately she and the anesthesiologist insisted on intubating me because of my age and size, but she reported that there was no damage to the vocal folds or trachea. My speaking voice seems to be normal after two days. Is there anyone out there with experience in recovering from this type of procedure, and anything I should be aware of as I begin to workout next week. I was averaging 75-90 minutes per day, 5-6 days a week. How drastically should I cut back in the first days after I start up again? Any other advice? StevenMFeinbergMD
It is not uncommon after an intubation to have ulceration of the arytenoid mucosa. If you experience any pain with singing you need to return to your otolaryngologist for laryngoscopy prior to resuming singing.
