VideoHere
Someone posted vintage Lou Gramm singing in Poor heart. So here he's about 19 or 20. Just listen to that rich tone.. Here he reminds me of Chuck Negron from Three Dog Night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU3QzwLwwaU
VideoHere
fairly recent lou.... still has that operatic-ish tone.

ronws
From 2009, not that long ago. Respect to Louis Grammatico. Not just because it's my national anthem. This song is a challenge to sing, even if you have musical accompaniment. And this is a capella.
VideoHere
the poster spelt his last name wrong, so this one got lost in the you tube shuffle. just a couple months ago.
ronws
^ Awesome. I love that he always sings it clean and legit, not like a "dirty white boy." He pays respect to the song and earns respect, in return. In addition, an excellent study in vowel usage.
VideoHere
i found this singer on you tube who did a nice job of covering this really challenging foreigner tune albeit a step down. as you watch this you can hear how this singer really rides those vowels and maintains a solid ring. you can also here how the vowel sounds merge very nicely... Remylebeau
Since Bob just kicked this thread, I thought it might be a good time to mention that I've yet to find a live clip of Lou Gramm, Kelly Hansen, or anyone else really nailing the chorus of Hot Blooded and I'm pretty sure Kelly performs it 1/2 step down a lot of the time. Bob, or anyone else, what's the best Hot Blooded live clip you've found (in the original key).
VideoHere
you're right, very few, if any of lou's live performances come close to the recorded one. kelly does most of the songs a half down. in that key, kelly does a good job with it but it's a little sterile. i drop it a half and it's just not consistent enough yet. it's so easy to lose your support, or get too shouty, and on top of it all, you can lose it by under powering. this was a nice one, and the unplugged was awesome... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOLWmN-gbQ8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HESrWeWc6DI

What I find interesting, though, is that Gramm is clearly dropping down to a harmony part on the words "Hot Blooded" while someone else sings the C5-C5-B4 melody part and IMO they're doing it with a lighter registration than Gramm uses when he sings up there. VideoHere
thanks for that interview...it's just what jeff jacobs said..lou has this development to where he can be deep and high where kelly hansen is just high. to keep that (and sustain) that depth up there is very difficult. i would have to say lou probably could have made a good opera singer, had he wanted to. you get the feeling that lou was always trying to outdo himself, to himself. i have been trying so hard to get the chance to meet him and sit down and talk vocals....the last thing i would want to do is have him think of me as a pain in the backside, but he knows i exist..lol!!!
