Hello L.G. fans!

Here's another, Part 6, and a Dutch singer who did a real nice cover of "I want to know."

Lou really set the bar for a lot of us. I hope one day he'll decide to teach.

there a definitely a few vids I've seen of him that are a bit ugly.

For one, this one that is often applauded:

On the high notes he often seems to strain and be a little flat, kind of like he's reaching while pulling chest.

And this one:

I personally think he sounds pretty unimpressive here.

My favorite stuff from Lou is studio stuff, I think pre-tumor he may have not really had any training or knew what he was doing, which led to quite a few off nights and burnouts, which i think Farm Aid may have been for him.

That's the first time I've heard that song jukebox hero and I'm thoroughly impressed.  I'm definitely going to add that to my playlist, I've never heard the song before but everything sounds on pitch for the most part to me.

I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. (I'm sure you know that I would...LOL.)

Did you listen to some of his other live vocals vs. the recorded vocals?  They are so close the original it's uncanny.

Also always listen through to the end, because he has way of always doing another level up of intensity before the song ends.

Yes, there are some sub-par performances out there, especially as he was touring shortly after the brain tumor removal.

You see, what makes him so great is even though you say he's screaming there's a strong melodic tone underneath the scream that embellishes the overall tone (I.M.H.O.) And he has got a lot of strength up high.  Watch other performances.

His he a polished, perfect singer?  No, but that's not what he's all about.  It's not what the audience is expecting out of him.

In a recent interview he talked about how Mutt Lange wanted AC/DC kind of vocals out of him on Foreigner 4, and he said he didn't want to just scream sing.

It's his tone and intensity and feel and soul to his singing.  And how he ramps up more notes with even greater intensity.

A lot of Lou's videos are getting harder to find, I guess because Foreigner searches bring up the current lineup.

Check out these performances:

I love Lou on the studio stuff. But thats a pretty high bar for ANY singer to consistently pull off live

Yes, Lou really set the bar high, even for himself.

Yeah, I know.  But I'm getting better.  I have my section to retreat to...LOL!

Hey, you guys can always do a Dio admiration section.  I won't complain.....LOL!!

This recent cover of "Juke Box Hero" by Ken Tamplin just had to be posted.  He really nailed the hell out of this.

As we all know, this is no easy song to sing, as it sits high, with frequent interval jumps, and hits full out D and E5's.

Wow!!  This guy is unbelievably good!

ran across this cover.

Am really getting into Jorn Lande lately. He is pretty much a 50/50 cross between Coverdale and Dio...plus he has tons of albums online to listen to.

Its an interesting cover and right in the range of singers I am gravitating towards.   Coverdale, Gramm, Jorn, Chris Cornell, Ray Gillen all top out right at A5...with JLT going a little higher. Im really digging that high baritone/low tenor vibe. These guys have great warm lower ranges while then generally "screaming" or really leaning into it to go higher. (unlike a Steve Perry or Brad Delp who still sing clean way up in those higher ranges)

COLE GENTLES WROTE A BEAUTIFUL SONG! :headbang:

Hey guys, since we are sharing great songs and singing... I want to share this. This is Cole Gentles. He is a student of mine, more accurately, he purchased The Four Pillars of Singing, which I am proud to point out. But more importantly for this post, he wrote this song titled, "After Oz", that in my view is hauntingly beautiful. I just LOVE this tune. It demonstrates what a brilliant song writer Cole is. I love the ... art rock approach to this. Anyways, Ive been listening to it a lot lately. It just makes me feel good. Pay attention to the great lyrics as well. Lastly, it does have some great singing in it as well.

One techy note... some really nice use of Sob mode in here (especially early in the song) ... a "weepy" approach to singing to get a "desperate" or "weepy" sound color. It is produced by a subtle lowering of the larynx and cricoid tilt. Also, VERY popular and common. All great singers do it from time to time, but to be aware of it and be able to turn it on and off is a super important artistic skill when singing.

Some nice tasty use of Falsetto toward the end as well.

IDK, this song is really connecting with me right now... just wanted to share.
