TMV World Legacy Member Elizax Posted October 31, 2013 TMV World Legacy Member Share Posted October 31, 2013 Hi guys, so I'm back after a bit of practice and I just wanted to share with you my new cover of best of you, mostly for feedback and critique. Please, be as harsh and honest as possible as I really want to improve and build. Thank you. http://www.smule.com/p/86614364_21048544
TMV World Legacy Member ronws Posted November 2, 2013 TMV World Legacy Member Share Posted November 2, 2013 I liked the approach you took with the lead melody and I like the balladic feel. However, the harmony vocal is too prominent and off pitch in some parts, also with phrasing that does not match the lead vocal. Easiest fix is to drop the harmony or backing vocal from the mix, entirely. If you do re-record the backing vocal, make it match the lead in phrasing and go for a simpler true pitch. If you put too much melody variation or trills in it, it overshadows and destroys the lead. Also, a little less reverb. The original is nearly a dry track, in comparison, which is an artistic choice, albeit. And dial back the volume on the backing vocal or harmony track. It should be "barely there" and supportive, rather than competing or contrapuntal.
