Tysrian
Hi guys this is probably my first post here. But anyway I thought that my voice was pretty strong and reliable up to the E5/F5. But recently I discovered that at the A4, I either break or my voice gets lighter. I know that there is a resonance shift there but I feel that the shift in tone quality is a bit too obvious. I normally sing in mix/curbing whatever you call it. How do/did you guys deal with that shift. I should probably post a sound clip of what I mean, will do so soon thanks in advance. analog
Clip would be great! If you're staying in "mix/curbing" then you may want to increase twang as you go higher. That's one easy solution that I can think of.

Administrator Robert Lunte Posted June 18, 2010 Administrator Share Posted June 18, 2010 Increase or maintain twang and splatt more to a wider vowel at A4 will place it well.

gno
Tyrian - That last clip sounds like overdrive, and it doesn't sound like you are going into an obvious head register at A4 - Sounds good!. In classic terms, E4 is where my passagio begins, and A4 I enter into head voice, which definitely feels "smaller" and lighter. That feeling is carried up to maybe around E5, where it seems I go into an even smaller feeling up to A5. that's what I feel during excersises. When I sing rock songs at A4 and above, I try to keep the feeling Wide in Curbing, and I don't hear / feel that seemingly obvious shift. I just try to keep my throat open / wide. I may be naturally going into this "head" register, but I don't really feel it.
Tysrian
It does feel kinda overdrivish, but I am pretty sure that is not a full out overdrive. And I agree about the feelings of things beginning to feel different starting at E4. But with me the feelings of letting the voice resonate in different areas is essential
