Practising scales/exercises

Hey guys,

I don't know if it's just me, but does anyone use their fingers to follow the scale as it reaches every note (while singing, of course!) Like using their finger as a sort of navigation to your voice to follow while hitting the notes? Or maybe it's just me lol? It's weird because when I take my lessons and I song along to the scale being played by my teacher, I don't do that finger thing in the air but just sit down and sing to the scale. Maybe it's a mind thing ha. Recently, I have noticed that my fingers are beginning to hurt from constantly moving my fingers when doing the exercises( which I do everyday). I have tried to sit and down and just listen and sing to the scales without moving my fingers but it's like I just can't seem to keel my fingers/ hands still. I guess, it's due to months of moving it constantly haha.

Any tips, guys?

If I were you, I would try to just stop doing it, so long as you're doing a decent job on the exercises vocally. Keeping your hands behind your back might be a good way to start. Then of course once you get that down in a couple days, move them to be relaxed at your sides.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it's gonna be hard to get used to keeping my fingers behind my back, but it's gotta be done. Bad habits really are hard to drop ha. It's weird, caus before i used to follow the scale with my ear/head if you get what i mean but after a while, i think i became so used to certain scales (i use a exercise cd) , that i don't even make it a conscious effort to listen to the scale as it's going but instead, just follow my finger as it's going through the scale haha.
