Hey guys,

It's been a while since I posted anything in this section. I've been yearning to have a song to test my upper range and I just couldn't think of the right one; then just like that Highway Star comes on the radio (while I'm driving to college in my Chevy Aveo). Eureka! That definately takes the cake. That song is certainly a challenge.

Thank you all for listening and being a terrific world audience! Big shout out to everyone who took the CIT challenge. You guys all rocked it!

Now to set the bar really low here's my take ;)

P.S I would really love to hear all of your takes, fellow TMV members. This song is chock-full of fun.

Many blessings, Eric

'Ooh, she's a killer machine. She's got everything..."

You've got a great tone, throughout. Just need a little mix between the low and high.

Alright, Jens. That band was tight. The drummer, especially. Pulling simultaneous patterns. Then, later, a double time with what sounded like double bass kick drums, am I right? Demonic.

JENS I LOVED THAT ONE!!! :) One of my favorite songs of all time and it totally rocked. If I have any critique it would be to lighten the sound colour just a tad bit in the verses. But you can sing it however the hell you want :) Cheers. Btw. don't you find it a bit hard to be a singer in a band that has many long guitar solos? Fortunately I'm now in a band where I do the long guitar solos myself :) . Btw. I thought that your vocals were excellent and that you're one of the strongest members in the band actually.

I hope be able to cover this song with my band soon (and play both solos in the song, on my guitar, lol).

Hi dude. Liked your singing. I suggest that you also lighten your sound colour just a little bit. Big props for taking on such a huge song.

Haha well i was in a progressive metal band wich had 15 minute songs and perhaps 4 minutes was vocalised, so this is a breeze! Also thanks for the compliments, warms my heart ;)

Btw if you pull off the vocals and the solos of this il marry you lol

Sounds awesome, its kick ass! I watched it last night at my girlfriends house on her huge 10 x 10 foot mega TV... we have internet programming... totally cool to be sitting at my girl's house watching Jens in full movie size in the living room... Cool Jens, thanks for sharing.

I have an easier time with embeds.

.

Fantastic job all around! Including you Jens  You guys just all had incredible chemistry. The rhythm section was jamming, that guitarist was smoking, and you were wailing dude! I sure hope your bands on tour by now

Thanks for all the feedback and support everyone!

I think I still have a long way to go, recording wise. It almost sounds like my mic has no Mid-range frequency, and it makes my voice sound too dopey for some reason. Right now I'm using audacity. Is there any way to adjust the EQ to fix this?

I've been talking to a few people about this. The All of Me Challenge has been something really cool that brought the forum together. It's been nice to see people come out of their comfort zone and attempt something that they aren't used to attempting, whether they tried to sing the song R&B style or they took the song and tried to sing it in a way that feels natural to themselves. Both of these tasks are tricky things to do.

I thought it would be pretty cool if we did this every month. We could vote on a genre each month and choose a song to attempt. Each month would be a different genre. Also, it's important to note that this isn't a contest where somebody wins at the end. Think of it as a forum-wide project where everyone will be approaching something new quite often. You may even find something new in your voice that you like while trying to attempt the monthly challenge. So, who's interested?

We would start in May, but it's important to make a topic about a week beforehand so that we have time to deal with genre selection and song selection, which might be a tricky decision to make in itself. We may have to use some random song finder that will find songs in a particular genre.
I'm thinking maybe even use one of those radio apps that will find songs from the genre you want to listen to.

This month, we already did R&B, so lets find something else.

R&B

-Motown

-Doo-wop

-Neo-Soul

-Funk

Country

-Bluegrass

-Rockabilly

Blues

-Electric Blues

-Old School Blues

-Blues Rock

-Delta

Rock

-Hard Rock
-Alternative Rock

-Punk Rock

-British Rock

-Indie Rock

Pop
-Bubble Gum Pop (60's and 70's)

-Teen Pop

-Euro Pop

Folk

-Celtic Folk

-Indie Folk

Classical

-Opera

-Baroque

-Chant

Metal

DO NOT TRY TO SING THESE SONGS EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL ARTIST IF YOU HAVE NOT MASTERED DISTORTION. TECHNIQUES USED IN THESE SONGS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE. IF IT HURTS, STOP.

-Death Metal

-Heavy Metal

Jazz

-Bebop

-Latin Jazz

-Big Band
-Swing

Gospel

Reggae

(Let me know if I'm forgetting a genre here.)

This is a cool idea that I'm game for but you are forgetting a genre: Jazz, and more jazz.

That will really challenge you guys. I has the most intricate phrasing, interval leaps and improvisational usage.

That'd really get most of you out of your comfort zone and I'd bomb out too. :D

Gospel would be a pretty legit genre to consider. Also classic 60s soul (Stax and Motown).  It doesn't get any beltier than that. I'm thinking Wilson Pickett here. Also jazz standards. Great American songbook kind of stuff. Maybe not a lot of high notes but definitely some tricky intervals. This is a great idea by the way.

Yeah, clearly I'm being very general with the genre stuff. I don't know how I left out jazz, I was just thinking about it, lol. I didn't mention old school soul because I figured that would fit into R&B, but of course I'm a soul man who wouldn't mind that. Let's see what some other people are interested in and them we'll vote I guess.

I was going to mention genres from other countries in my post on Bluegrass..... This is a world forum and that is what makes it great.

Edited the list. I figured, why not do sub-genres? And I have no objection to doing international music if everyone else is okay with it.

I think it is very intriguing. We should all be forced to learn a foreign language song at least once and pronounce everything wrong.  :D
