Snax
Hey gang, It's now been about 5 months since my tonsillectomy and I have been reading every post I can here on head voice and adduction etc. Here's me singing the song "Who's Lovin' You". I just recorded this yesterday. I'd tried it a little while ago too but sang it more lightly. This version I'm trying to get a more powerful head tone. A few years ago I'd have never been able to attempt this so please let me know where I can improve! Thanks in advance and here's a link to the song... http://files.me.com/muskysnax/m3k8w3.mp3
Jens
Dunno what to say really snax, some small errors where you closed your voice tomuch. But apart from that, let me put it this way you rock! make a record!
Snax
You're too funny Jens! YOU rock too buddy! Seriously though, can you let me know the parts where I closed my voice too much so I can work on them?
ronws
Snax, I didn't know you had that much soul! I would by the record in a heartbeat. Whoops, showing my age. I meant cd or ipod download. I think it was spot-on perfect.
Jens
Snax around 0:24 baaaabeee the top note, it's like the twang ´gets you to tight. and 2:19 you kindo get on the side of the A vowel. so come on and take it because IIII. Those are the places in the song i reacted on because they didnt really hold the same high standard as everything else ¨Your wails a craazzeee
Snax
Thanks Jens! I'll take another listen and try and hear what you mean. If you can let me know what,if any vowel modifications I could and should have done, please do. I'm still trying to understand all the technical aspects of singing. I'm more of a "feeling it" type of singer but do want to get the right techniques instilled in my muscle memory too. Thanks Ron for the kind words also! :)
joshual
Awesome take Snax. I was thinking the same as Jens especially on the baaaabbbeee. Maybe you guys gonna think i'm crazy but, why don't you try to be just a little breathy, or a little more dirty? You're sing the song so well that i now want to hear more soul tones in there ;-)
Snax
I also want to sing with more grit Joshua. I'm sort of taking baby steps with my new voice post surgery. I LOVE Terence Trent D'arb's voice and want to sing more like that eventually.
HolaChau
I think it was really nice, congratulations! Did your voice change much after the surgery?
Snax
I think it was really nice, congratulations! Did your voice change much after the surgery? Thanks HolaChau. Yes, my voice went a bit thin sounding for a few weeks but then it began to get fuller and now bigger sounding then before. In my case my tonsils were extremely large and I had my adenoids removed at the same time. Now my voice feels so much better when I'm singing. I just need to refine my techniques and get the muscles good and strong now.
gno
Sounds awsome! Yes - same spot as Jens said. Your voice seems like it has advanced quite a bit from before. You seem to have even more control in the really high range of your voice. Great job.
Snax
Thanks again guys. What should I do to sing the bad parts better? Could anyone perhaps post an example for me? I learn best by mimicking what I hear.
Jens
Well you do it right mostpart of the song, just listen to yourself. it's just in that particular area you close off, a slip. not a major vocal problem :P
VideoHere
snax, real nice job on a tough song. who's version is that? farnham's?
Snax
I used the Jackson 5 karaoke backing tracks for this one. Little Michael had some serious vocal chops!

They are two of my favourite male singers! Right up there with Dio and tom Jones in my book. Just different is all.
gno
Thanks again guys. What should I do to sing the bad parts better? Could anyone perhaps post an example for me? I learn best by mimicking what I hear. Snax - again it sounds awsome. Everything is just about perfect. It is that phrase in the beginning "I treat you Baa.." if you listen is it just a tad rushed - just a tiny bit. It just sounds to me that if you get the timing right, you'll sing it with more conviction and that's it. I think it will fall into place. It's really minor - your voice is fantastic. Snax
I'm curious if there is a different vowel or tongue position etc that could take away that pinched sound on that part. I'm very willing to learn and correct whatever I can technically even if it's very minor.
chele1000
Snax, Nice job buddy! ..nice low ending..;P ...as far as the head voice, you're bang on in your lower end of the head voice but lose a bit of control on the higher end. Try a bit of twang when you're going for the higher notes. Keep your head looking as straight or even look down when singing the really high notes. (it works) You're a great singer. Keep working it...you're in my range! Young Michael was a fantastic singer...old Michael too.
Snax
Thanks chele! I also like the low ending! It was a spur of the moment ad-lib. I'm still learning how to twang so I'll definitely work on it. When I sang the word "baaaaaaaad" I was singing it like the word "hey" where maybe I should have sang it like the way it is spoken instead?
