TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 22, 2014 TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 22, 2014 Hey I'd like some input on my lower register, because I don't feel that I have a natural strength in that part of my voice. Please take a listen and tell me what you think. https://app.box.com/s/h1jt2kiubn90u28isqnz Thanks in advance. TMV World Legacy Member Sun Posted May 23, 2014 TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 23, 2014 Hi, I love this song and know it well so I feel I can reply. I think it sounds good. Jorn has a strong low end and gets that "old man" sound. Part of it is a strong low voice but also some slow wobble-like vibrato. On "no more tears to cry", make the word " cry" sound heavier, jorn is singing softly but sings some words in a full low voice giving it that deep feeling. But really I'm just nit-picking. It's just subtleties which could be improved upon but overall it sounds good man.
TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 23, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 23, 2014 Thanks, Sun! But nitpicking is not bad, in fact that's what I'm looking for. Yes, in "tears to CRY", he does make it sound more heavy. I will practice that. For now I can only do a weaker vocal fry in that range haha. TMV World Legacy Member ronws Posted May 24, 2014 TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 24, 2014 I don't know the song but I liked it.
TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 27, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 27, 2014 Thank you very much, CunoDante! It was very very helpful. I think you are totally correct on the technical side, and it's cool that you noticed some of the things I do dynamically. I really want to improve on this song, as I just love it. I love pain, despair and oblivion haha. I sent you an email, please have a look at it, heheh. Thanks again for your time. TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 27, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 27, 2014 I will record a full version of this song when I got the time. Although I feel like I would not make justice to it because I feel this Jorn Lande stuff NEEDS distortion haha. TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 28, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 28, 2014 Now that I had more time and listened to the clip you left me, I can make some comments about it Well, you have a very good ear, and are spot on on all of my vowel tendencies. I always tend to darken the vowels instead of going more for an AA-AH and let more twang and strength kick in. I feel like in my low-mid and low range I don't use the same pharingeal configuration. When I am in the C4-F# range I really feel a change and suddenly my voice grabs crazy ( for me haha ) power. I'll try to carry this .. well, twang, haha more into my low register. And think more of an AH, on every vowel instead of blurrying and darkening it. There surely is a point of deminishing returns when one wants to darken the voice. I'll record it again and see what happens. Thanks so much for your time, Cuno.. you are awesome :c \m/ PD: By the way, the line that says " Washing pain away", is the line I like the most of the whole song, because it's the only one that only goes up by a semi-note ( it's a G, but it's only half step from the previous note, that's what I mean) on the melody line. It's such a detail, haha. I love it, no idea why. My SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann My Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sebarhap
TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 28, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 28, 2014 Hey After a couple ( ) of tries I got kind of confused in my mind with so many versions and parts that where better or worse and aaaaargh! haha I chose these two to post here. I tried to apply all of your corrections, and although I am pitchy ( slightly flat ) in some vowels it is much less than before. To the person listening to the general line and not nitpicking it will sound just fine though, haha. This happened in the vowels of "more" or "I'll" which I found very hard to do with the AH sensation. Your corrections where great, and very helpful, I am so used to darken and close the vowels when I speak and sing. I will be very careful with that from now on. https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/27-mayo-2014-silent-is-the-rain-246329583245-try https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann/27-mayo-2014-silent-is-the-rain-246329583244-try-haha Sorry for the second recording.. my father was shouting something on the background hahah My SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann My Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sebarhap
TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 28, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 28, 2014 Today I recorded the second part of the song, just to show you, guys. For Dante: Slightly flat syllables in some places and some darkening tendency for some others. I guess now that I am very aware of it it is just time and practice to get used to the new habits. Thank you very much Two versions because the two have different things haha https://app.box.com/s/urctjkp699ooz3zh8npn https://app.box.com/s/zyh653qt2m4hc3dkuxiu My SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann My Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sebarhap
TMV World Legacy Member Xamedhi Posted May 28, 2014 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted May 28, 2014 I was listening again, and found that it could be more of a word's and accent thing that is affecting me. The words "More", "I'll", "Some", "meet( <-in this case, don't know if in other songs the same would happen )", which I tend to pronounce kind of an AH/OH mixture, probably with a very memorized speech-ish internal setup. I'll be careful with that :) My SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/sebabergmann My Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sebarhap
