What's the best way to work on cleanly articulated runs? In the style of a Justin Timberlake, R&B kind of stuff... I've just recently made some breakthroughs in breathing from the diaphragm, and I notice when I occasionally nail a run it seems to come from better support. I want a drill that helps me work on runs specifically though, I've heard panting helps, and that's definitely helped me learn how to use the diaphragm more, but should each note in a run "bounce" off the diaphragm? Hope I articulated this well enough. Thanks in advance.

Well, I think the idea of proper support is that it takes the work of holding in the air OFF of the throat, thus freeing your vocal cords... so I can see how that would definitely help.

I came across these videos a while back with exercises for specifically training quick runs:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

It's not one of my areas of focus right now, but let me know if this is what you were looking for!

One thing that you can try to get more cleanly articulated runs is a "machine-gun" laugh................think woody woodpecker............once you get that feeling of a quick succession of notes, you can try to make the sound to a series of pitches..............once you get used to this kind of coordination, youll be able to smooth it out....................also.........more support will make this easier.............not only holding back the breath, but also torso anchoring.......or the feeling effort in your chest and lats...............also, head and neck anchoring might assist..........to do this, pretend to bite into an apple and get your teeth stuck..........then release the lower jaw.............you should feel effort in the back and sides of your neck.........and in the area above the hard palette...........its also important to note that this feeling is also where a fast, spinning, "pop"vibrato comes from...........

Licks and runs uses the same technique as used in coloratura. It's refered to as ornamentation and there is a section about how you can train it in the CVT book.

Here is an ex:
