Hello, I have TMD due to a childhood impact injury and it's been catching up with me in the last few years. As it is getting worse, my jaw is getting stiffer and is therefore harder to sing. My studies reveal that it can also potentially transfer tension to the muscles that elevate the larynx and can interfere with the sound quality of my voice. I know this is a problem I must resolve if I want to continue singing comfortably. Anyone have any advice? I don't think it's stress related and avoiding hard food doesn't really help much.

I wish I could help but I don't know that I can. I have TMJ, on the right side, most noticable when I am eating.

But it doesn't stop me from singing. I don't know how I got it but I have had it for decades. Nor does singing make it "worse."

I just do my thing, hell or high water.

Depends on where you are. In America, the Affordable Care Act does not cover dental. That is still a separate independent insurance you have to buy for yourself. Most office visits cost the same, with or without insurance. However, extensive work like crowns and bridges can run into thousands.

Ya, I'm in the USA. I looked at my insurance provider. If I'm reading correctly they'll cover TMD specifically 60%-40%.

Yeah, but not with a dentist. It would be with an ENT. A dentist is a separate thing, entirely, a different plan, not covered by ACA compliant plans because the ACA does not require it.
