The song suits your tone, however, the chorus sounds a bit forced, I think you should relax into it. I hear some straining in the chorus, but maybe that is the gravel-like sound you wanted us to hear? Nonetheless, its an okay cover, you have a good voice. Vowels are getting wide and splatty, this is contributing to the tension in your voice in the chorus.
