SupaCi
So this morning I woke and began to warm up with some lip rolls... For the past few I been trying to expand my range and I've been struggling to hit a C6. So after I finished warming up I began at an A5 on my piano and worked my way up to a C6. I actually hit and sustained it! So I continued and as soon as I got to a D6 my voice "broke off" and felt completely disconnected from my throat (It didn't even feel like I was singing anymore); I was in my whistle register. I made it to an E6 before my voice cracked at a F6. My question is when I reach an A5 I start to feel a pulling at the bottom of my throat. Right around this area: It gets worse and around a C6 it actually feels like something in the bottom of my throat is folding in (making a 'U' shape). But luckily it stopped when I got into my whistle register. What's causing this? :(

Sheepdog
Yes, the morning is the easiest time to find whistle voice since your voice is relaxed and tends toward vocal fry. Congrats for finding it! As for the pain you feel, I'm willing to bet it's not a good thing. Someone more experienced than me would have to help you out with that.

classical guitar
Start on a middle c and do a lip roll that slides between the middle c and a half step up. Do it a few times. Then slide from middle c to d, a whole step higher... then eb (3 half steps higher)... keep this going until you can slide from a middle c to the c6 you're talking about. Then keep going. You'll find whistle tones MUCH higher than the ones you have now if you spend a good deal of time with this one. I can whistle c7 up to the next G pretty easy after dong this one for a year now. classical guitar
no prob. I got the idea by adding lip rolls to jaime vendera's falsetto slide sxercises.
gno
Interesting post. I'm probably a couple months behind you in the high range development. I'm not quite up to C6 yet. I'm vocalizing up to a consistent A5 on a daily basis and squeaking out Bb5's and B5's on a daily basis too, but shakey. I'm in no pain though. Even though I'm up at A5, or Bb5, I'm not loose enough for vibrato up there yet. I'm going higher in with Vibrato, but maxed out probably at F#5 so far. Where are you at with Vibrato? Are you loose enough on C6 for a Vibrato?

But for some reason I need to hear the notes played for me to go any higher LOL But those notes are still very shaky for me, they do however smoothen out the longer I hold them. On the C6 (when I can reach it ) I learned to add the vibrato by holding the note then running down. When I start to do runs my brain automatically adds vibrato, so once I do that 5 or 6 times I can add it without having to do runs.

Jens
Sorry to be that guy, but dont you know this Thread is like 2 years old? Kindo big possibility for the problem either to be solved or forgotten ;)
Adoney
You might want to get used to cracking into whistle, as this happens now every time i try to use head voice, i simply sing an octave higher in whistle. strange indeed. Not saying that it's a hugh problem, I just changed techniques.
BH024
I cracked into my whistle over 2 weeks ago, and at day 17, I'm still not able to sing in whistle past the morning. There's no pain whatsoever, but after a few minutes, it's gone. I know it's going to take months to develop it, but will I ever get to use it after the AM?
