The Scientist
What is he doing wrong here? He hit the notes, he goes to head voice (CVT supporters will kill me:) which is good, but it's pretty hard for him, he struggles to much and I guess he does his voice harm, like going to high with his larynx. Do you think he could do it some easier way? I have similar problem like him so that is why I'm asking... Tnx

forgivendays
I think he's talking about 1:10 That Gb4 sounds like chest voice to me.. Maybe that's why it sounds strained.
VideoHere
I think he's talking about 1:10 That Gb4 sounds like chest voice to me.. Maybe that's why it sounds strained. not chest, head voice. remember i'm only a singer, but i'd say the "it all" was a little too heady... it needed a little more chestiness in the sound and a little more "umph"......a more dynamic "all" more breath support....and then "she offers me protection...more dynamic, more "umph" he didn't use enough dymanics and intensity....i.m.h.o. Snorth
I think he used neutral on the high notes which didn't give it the power that a fully centered curbing could have given him. EDIT: Hmm he might have used curbing later on in the song, I would prefer more twang though.
ronws
I think he was backing off the air pressure to keep from belting too loud and was relaxing tension to the point of getting a little fry, which gives a raspy tone, which may have been for expressive purposes. I didn't really see him straining at all. The whole performance was quiet and in places where he could have swelled to a crescendo, he didn't. That is, I think it was a stylistic choice, rather than a vocal difficulty.
Snorth
I agree with you ronws, what I expressed is actually my just my sound ideal.
ronws
Exactly Snorth, and I understood your meaning. You would have preferred more twang, as would have I. So, I think the guy was making stylistic choices different from ours.
