False cord screaming....myth or fact?

I recently saw Zen of Screaming 2, and in it, Melissa makes the claim that false cord screaming isn't a good idea for tenors, and can ruin your vocal cords, but it's ok for baritones and basses. I'm rather skeptical about a lot of the things she said in the dvd, but this has quite serious implications, as I'm somewhere between a natural baritone and a natural tenor myself. and has left me with 2 questions.

1. Does anyone know whether there is any truth in this?

2. Are there any appreciable biological differences between a baritone's and a tenor's vocal apparatus that might explain this?

I'm hoping this is just a myth, because I'm aware that almost every facet of the voice can be trained.

I've also heard that engaging the false cords while using the vocal cords is bad for your vocal cords too, but this doesn't make much sense to me, because you can't scream on pitch without using your vocal cords, surely....

I totally agree with Jens, and I would assume this myth came into being because from what I've learnt the smaller the cords the more delicate they are. A natural tenor would probably have smaller vocal cords than a basso, this making them more delicate than the bassos cords. But if you know what you are doing, and making sure it doesn't hurt you, you are totally safe.

And as Jens said, Melissa Cross teaches both men and women, herself being woman kinda makes me wonder why on earth she would say something like that. Womens cords are even smaller than a tenors and therefore even more delicate, but as stated if you're carefull you won't hurt yourself.

I don't even remember this and I've watched ZoS 1 + 2 a million times. Hello Melissa? What about Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy who appears in ZoS 2 and is one of the most brutal screamers ever? :D

I would appreciate it if you could tell me exactly where she says this, I am shocked to hear it but like all coaches, some of her methods are always going to be questionable.

Hi Bob and Chele, thanks :) I'm still in Cyprus doing 5 shows a week, will be here until the 18th of October. Really love it, and I feel like I'm learning lots and lots here, lovely team and lovely crowd. Don't have internet in my appartment though, that's why I've been very absent from the forum.
