m.i.r.
So i am a bit of a hyper chondriac in vocal health, well anything music related i guess. Back story when i was younger about 6 years ago, I was on tour with this group playing guitar and piano. It was a 3 month run and alot of back to back nights, and during free time i was doing random session work as well (this was during one of my full time music runs). Anyways long story short between shows, sessions, and practice for the sessions it was very close to non stop playing. Well 2 months in my left hand went close to useless and developed serious tendinitis and it stopped me in my tracks for some time. Was able to make it through the rest of my obligation with pain killers and a shot. However lost serious mobilty afterwards, and it took about 8 months to recover. Even after recovering, it is always there now, waiting for me to screw up again and not take the proper rest and precautions with warm up and so forth. Long story short, it will never be the same again. So the reason for that rant is lately have been having having a bit of a raw vocal track. All the way from the soft palate to what feels like past my folds. Also my warm up time takes longer now, I feel like a million bucks after a set, ready to sing another. However, in the beginning, a bit shaky and un comfortable, just all in all slightly out of whack. It almost feels like the muscles in my larynx are tired, as its very slightly uncomfortable to swallow as well. However after a set all this has past and i feel good. Also no symptoms of hoarseness or breathiness. Only thing is it is a bit uncomfortable at first to connect past e4 as it just feels raw, as well as a tired muscle feeling. I generally try to take as good of care of my vocals as possible. So this is the best i can describe this. So in the vocal health world, this could mean pre nodule warning. It could also just be my post nasal drip being in high gear, as allergies has been bad. I am a push it you whimp type of person, how as i said above i paid the price and learned my lesson using that mentality in this setting. So what do yall think?? I have an appointment with ent end of january, but if its possible pre nodule warning i will kill all singing and alot of talking until then. Or if i am just over reacting for reasons stated above. Anyways sorry for the long question and rant. For once i have some down time, kiddos asleep, woman stormed out in a fight, and i am too beat from the week to get out and doing something lol. Jens
I would chill and monitor your voice, don't worry to much. Sometimes you have off days off weeks or even off months. rest some days, make sure you get good sleep, and don't argue to much with your partner our voices are usually a reflection of our emotional level aswell. Btw can't you give us some more insight on your singing habits, we know more from this about your piano/guitar skills ;)
Administrator Robert Lunte Posted December 6, 2014 Administrator Share Posted December 6, 2014 Ditto... the voice is very resilient. Students tend to get way too worried about their vocal health at the slightest scratchy feeling.
Administrator Adolph Namlik Posted December 6, 2014 Administrator Share Posted December 6, 2014 I agree with Robert and Jens. Add to that : I went through the same type of situation several years ago. That is, worrying about nodes and nodules. I went to the ENT and everything was fine. In my instance, my vocal problems were a result of scar tissue pressing against the right vocal fold as a result of several surgeries of the cervical spine. Since then, I get botox injections to "relax" the scar tissue. (Too many details to get into). Since you have an appointment scheduled simply wait until you get the results. All the worrying/stress will compound your problems. And no arguing with the lady. It will get you nowhere Warmest Regards, Adolph
m.i.r.
Thank yall for your replies. I am sure I am over reacting, more than likely just from the really bad allergies this year. As i said i dont over react about anything unless i am bleeding out on my death bed lol. But anything that can effect me musically i am a hyper chondriac just from the story i posted above. I think yall are right, i need to just chill, relax, and enjoy things. If something breaks then i will deal with it, just do what i can health and care wise, and just let it rip lol. As for the comments arguing with the lady, you are right there is no winning lol. Do i want to be kicked in the balls or the d**k....where the hell is option 3 lol. However one thing i learned, and a comedian turned me onto this, and i started experiementing with it. A female will never admit defeat, if on the verge of defeat they will throw a huge curve ball out of no where. Like she knows one of my biggest fear is being like my dad was. So last night i had her on the ropes, about to be end game. Then boom, "well you are just like your dad!!!". Normally that would set me in hot mode. However, since i have learned this huge trick females pull as flares to avoid losing. I didnt even respond, just replied "well we are from the same gene pool" then chuckled. This made her rage out, and she stormed off and left. I laid down, turned on the tv, posted here and passed out...With a satisfied mind ha ha ha. The male must improve his counter measures ha ha
ronws
Like she knows one of my biggest fear is being like my dad was. So last night i had her on the ropes, about to be end game. Then boom, "well you are just like your dad!!!". Normally that would set me in hot mode. Couldn't resist. My mother and father divorced when I was almost three. So, I don't remember him much and have had 3 step-fathers, all military vets. And in Scouts and Explorers, the scout master was a former Army pilot and the asst. scoutmaster was an Army Ranger LRRP, who brought in one of his instructors to teach us some stuff about living off the land with nothing more than your underwear and a knife. Scoutmaster was a 5th degree black belt in Kenpo who taught us armed, unarmed, and improvised combat. So, someone could always tell my I am like my mother. Which would still be a compliment. I'm a messed up guy, I guess.
m.i.r.
Ha ha thats awesome in its own not awesome way lol, i have no idea how to phrase that.. That is the only thing i could say my dad taught me, he was kinda of a legend of his own in the mma, jujitsu, aikido world here. We actually did alot of work with toe head (chuck norris). On walker texas ranger as well as on his movie side kicks, though chucky baby stood us up on the premiere, you can tell of how i think of chucky lol, the stories about him are true. Though i did get to meet and become friends with danica mckellar because of all that. The highlight of my younger years, biggest crush ever....damn if i was only the age i am now then lol....damn
ronws
I pass by Chuck's ranch on the way to MIL'd house. But, anyway, cool, I didn't want to derail too much from your thread. I just understand about toxic family and odd things and the way they turn out to be. When I hear myself speak and how I phrase, etc. I hear my mother. I probably make few notes lower than her but not much. "You sing like a girl" "Why, thank you ..." :)
m.i.r.
Ha ha i dont care about derailing of a thread as long as the convo is good. Plus the point is pretty clear, quit being a va j j and worring so much lol. Going by your comments either you sing really high and light or your mom sings fairly low. I envy people who had music in their family, i was the outcast in mine following music as i did.

As for the ladies --- I love 'em And no offense intended to them, but they DO speak a different language and most that I know will admit it !!! Enough said BTW, Welcome to the TMV World Forum !!! ~Adolph~
m.i.r.
Ha ha i think women run on the old military system of break down and build up part. Except they forget the build up part ha ha!! I mean look at every male that as been married for decades...20 30 50 years. You ask them what the key to that long of a marriage is and they repeat like a zombie "a happy wife is a happy life" hell my grandfather who raised me and is the best man i have ever met in life. He has been married for 69 years now, same thing lol. The guy who sold me my ring some time ago, married for 30 some years. Said "happy wife is a happy life" like a zombie, or someone brain washed by a cult ha ha "the man in black is our leader".....however i dont think there is any fighting it, i am,sure many men have tried through out the ages. Those are prob the legends that was hung, burned at the stake, or woke up with no man parts lol. I am sure if i am not divorced before the end of the month, i might end up one with the cult myself.... Anyways thanks for the welcome adolph!! I think it may have been gerd anyways, do to my jacked up busy schedule was eating right before going to bed then passing out. Actually had a little free time last two days, and have paid attention to that, folds and throat have felt great. Had great full fold closure, about 5 mins into warm up as usual and no pain. P.s. ron, incase my message to you might have been read the wrong way. I wasnt calling you a va j j, was calling myself one lol
