What are you so bashful for maam?? Just like what has already been said you have a very warm inviting tone, your timber could also fit well in theater as ron said.

The only thing I have to say is I really want to know what lies beneath. I hear this warm inviting tone, and there is a huge market for that, and if that is where your goal is, then great I would say you are there already.

However, when you raise the tone a bit, and started to get "intense" as you say. It is like either you are pulling back on purpose, or pulling back because you are shy. My whole point is I hear a sleeping giant in that voice, I am just curious what would come of it.

As I said, if your stylistic goal is to stay where you are now, I think it is great. It would def relax me on a bad day, some females would kill to have that in their tone. I just see it as you could be a true doctor jekle mr hyde if you wanted to.

Aaaw you GUYS! I'm glad I was able to convey some emotion in the song and that you could detect it :) Also... there was someone home when I was singing it, so I was trying to hold back "how loud" I could get... I am shy, good insight M.i.r.! I never considered musical theatre because well... I just never thought I had the voice for it, lol! Or the acting skills, haha So... in terms of my range, this song is comfortable. It's smack in the alto range :) Maybe I'll try a higher one next time and challenge myself (although this song was challenging enough)!

Thanks for the advice about getting a twang in my voice. I haven't really established the kind of "sound" I want... I suppose I'm kind of undecided. I suppose whatever comes naturally to me is what I want to build on and refine! And as for that song from Jesus Christ superstar, I'll check it out! I don't think I've heard it before.... :)

You dont have to have that heavy gospel type of twang to sing high. Alot of time they have that from pushing the crap out of their chest, bottoming out their larynx and activating the swallowing muscles. If you listen to their high high notes, there is usually a yelling type distortion, because basically they are with style.

I just think it would be interesting to hear you sing a higher beltier song. I honestly dont hear much alto weight in your tone, so you may be a hybrid. Or have the best of both world. As me for one would find that quite awesome. As that has been my goal in singing, to have the heavier, warm, full baritone bark ish sound low. With a lighter, cutting, free top end in the vain of adam Lambert, jeff buckley sense. I am getting close to this, not quite yet. Still have to free up the top end some more. Have the range and power, but still little too heavy, as my voice is just heavy and big to begin with. The day I reach where I want, I will, immediately throw a party lol. Been trying to find a teacher to help me with this, but apparently its hard to find instructors now days lol.

Anyways away from my rant, i could see you pulling this split personality from hearing your sample. Dont know if that's what you want, and as you say you dont even know yet, but I would think its amazing lol...

Wow, Ronws, I remembered hearing your version and liking it. I'd enjoy you taking another shot at it, especially if she takes you up on your offer.

But I'd never heard the original singer there and I get a huge kick out of that guy. That's some seriously soulful Judas, he brings so much humanity and passion to a role mostly known for betrayal.

I've gathered his name was Carl Anderson. Anyone know anything of other material he did? He has that special touch, surprises me a little he wasn't more famous.

I am a classic alto. My usual range is the E or F below middle C to the E or F above high C (haven't yet figured out the numbers). As an alto, is it even possible to train my voice to sing as high as a soprano? I suppose it will take more work seeing that I am naturally more comfortable with lower notes, but if anyone has any tips, let me know!

Hi, MsAmira!

Welcome to the forum, and for jumping right in with a song post.

I agree with all the song feed-back that the others provided. Brava to you!

I'd like to offer an opinion as a classically-trained singer and choral conductor... You do not sound to me like an alto, at least not the way you sang that song. You sound to me like a young (15-18?) soprano singing in the lower 2/3 of her voice, with an attractive, plaintive tone that communicates emotional content and connection well. This tone is ideal for very many pop and Broadway songs, as others have pointed out.

How you develop this does depend on how and what you choose to sing going forward. You mention 'Soprano'. Perhaps you could explain what attracts you to that, and what king of singing you have in mind?

Lool! I'm actually much order than that! 26... :P But I do sound, young, I get that all the time. What I mean by Soprano is essentially improving my range in the upper register. I find I can hit notes, but I have a hard time sustaining them (because it requires so much effort :P

MsAmira,

If you are experiencing effort up there, then you will need to improve how you approach that range. To know what to recommend first, would you do a siren on oo starting at the G below middle c (G3)'and slide up to the G two octaves up (G5), and the same siren on ee and ah?
