folks, i was thinking over the weekend that maybe we would derive more core benefit from the forum if we developed specific base categories for all the posts, rather than just having them scattered about with no rhyme or reason. it's really hard to find things you remember seeing, but you have no idea where you saw it.

for example, non-song, audio submissions would get grouped into a post called "vocal exercise audio."

another, "breath support"...just a thought.

You might end up having to post this in the forum suggestions area. Akarawd is suggesting, for example, a section for karoake based submissions, for those who are offended by center-panned cd rips and self-played instruments. And the regular critique section could be for alternate arrangements or ripped backings.

My thoughts too.

Isn't that overdoing it slightly? That would be a bit like having a seperate forum for people who left pan the vocal examples, then another for people who right pan and the third one for center-minded people. I don't think people dislike center-panned cd rips and self played instruments as much as you think. It's just that if the SOUND of the track isn't that good, it subconciously affects the mind of many listeners. Basically, Ron - improve your guitar tone :) lol. I was told myself a few months ago that I should improve the quality of my own recordings because initially I recorded everything on my mobile phone and perhaps played an accoustic guitar at the same time.

I get it, jonpall. You don't like me. Why don't you back off the attitude just a smidge? The idea for a separate section for karoake posts wasn't mine but it was in response, as a matter of fact, to another member who submitted a song that still had ghost vocals because it was a center-panned rip and another, even newer member, crapped on it because of that. You're just looking for a chance to dig at me and I think you need to find a new hobby.

Yes, others have criticised my guitar playing. But that wasn't the reason for this suggestion nor was it initially my idea. I was simply mentioning it and the fact that it was in the forum suggestion section, instead of here.

But no, you couldn't wait to "school" me, even for something that wasn't my idea. If you want to keep on harrassing me, I shall be forced to resume posting submissions. You wouldn't want that, would you?

Of course, I could be wrong. You could be in charge of what this forum should or should not be like. I could have been mistaken in thinking this was a place for supporting each other in our musical endeavors. I have been wrong before. In fact, that separates me from a lot of people. The fact that I can accept when I am wrong and that I don't know everything.

Um, Ron. Don't be a victim, man. I was only kidding a bit. Maybe it just wasn't funny. Oops. Guess you're not the only one who sometimes speaks before you think. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings because that wasn't my intention. Byt you always seem to get upset whenever someone doesn't agree with you. I just wasn't agreeing with you this time. Don't forget that I was the first one to say go for it when you started the thread about stories about rock vocalists such as Axl Rose. I loved those stories. People disagree with me, with you, and with everyone from time to time. I mentioned an example where people talked about that I should improve the quality of MY recordings so were on the same boat man. But the thing about the internet is that it can be hard to figure out the intentions behind the words. Also, us vocalists can be so touchy ;) I'm one of them, btw.

Hey Bob, bet you didn't think you were going to start a fight eh?

Maybe some subsections wouldn't be such a bad idea and there is a section to make suggestions. :)

Let's all try to get along in the sandbox!

cheers,

yeah, ron and jonpall...kiss and makeup!!!

lol!!!

look at all the dumb things i come up with.....lol!!!

these highly trained singers (who probably read, but don't post) probably say things like that guy videohere bob rejoices because he can now hit a b, and these people might sing b's in their sleep.

b.t.w. ron, i tried "sweet child of mine" (1/2 step down) last night.

the soundchoice karaoke disc is pretty good.

my synopsis: not an easy vocal....no twang and serious support= no axl vocal, period, end of story.

still easier (for me anyway) than gramm's stuff though

hey, i keep tryin'

..lol!!!!

And I suppose I bit your head off a little, jonpall. But you were reflecting personally on my about the guitar bit when I was just translating why the suggestion was started for having a karoake section only. Nor would that section be a bad thing, in my opinion. For example, I have been working on "Immigrant Song" but, until recently, the only backing track I had was a rip with center panned vocals and Plants ghost vocals, which panned out to other channels, throws it off. A person on another forum liked my singing on it but thought the recording sucked, precisely for that reason. But anyway, the idea for that section was not my idea and I resented your need to disagree with me on something I didn't start. I was mentioning it primarily suggest that suggestions probably belong in the suggestion section, down at the end of the forum menu.

As well as guitar mistakes, even mine. Though I don't think my guitar arrangements are all bad. I'm taking a piece of music that had 4 to 6 instruments and consolidating down to one acoustic guitar on a crappy mic. And, as I have mentioned before, I'm a live player and this recording thing is still new to me and I hope to get better.

As for kissing and making up, I don't know how people from Iceland do it but a simple peck on the cheek will do. Or, just as well, a brotherly hug. That I can handle. When we are with our pagan friends, hugs are the common form of greeting, regardless of gender, as it is non-sexual.

Hey Bob, I have been singing "Sweet Child of Mine" for a long time but it's since coming here and learning about easing off the air pressure that I have begun to sing it better. And I don't try to get Axl's rasp. Ironically, it is when I relax and don't worry about sounding like him that I get close to the fry he does, though I can't do his buzzsaw rattle. Nor am I trying to sound like him. I am inspired but not to the point of trying to sound exactly like him.

We each sing our own song. As long as I can hit the range, I am happy with it. My own take on the song is that most of the lyrics are in crying mode with some fry and the high parts are twanging quite a bit. At least, that is how I am approaching it.

As I recall recently (I finally got Appetite for Destruction on cd. My only other copy is the first run vinyl LP) even that last note is fully supported. I've approached it differently, sometimes decreasing volume on the dip and coming back full on the last.
