Danielformica
the 2 clips are 2 totally different spots or ranges in the voice the crazy high screamy stuff in the first clip will always be there its far away from where the chest wants to take most of the work but the singing in a song like rosanna which is lower but high as well is closer to the passagio making it more difficult, the voice has to manage it better. thats why steve tyler can always sing the dream on screams but not always the song. Jens
Daniel is spot on this, the highnotes in the first clip is the heavy pharyngeal m2 configuration it's high and released and lighter then if you take it a few steps down the first things he sings in that clip is probably more demanding for him then the highnotes. VideoHere
Thanks Ron! The point is singers, especially beginners, need to understand why a section like this is so challenging. You don't get this from watching Youtube videos. You have to go there, go to that place with your own voice and experience the difficulty firsthand, and all that's involved to sing a passage like that per your particular voice. A section like that will remain challenging. That's what I think needs to be communicated on this forum. You work out your voice to be able to sing passages like this, but don't assume that these will become effortless. I don't care how "light and right" you want to be, in most cases you will likely bust your butt when singing these kinds of passages. I hear all this talk about "light and right" and I think it deludes a lot of singers from reaching their potential. Your thoughts?
Danielformica
the thoughts are this if you keep busting your butt and pushing you never get to the first clip cause you think you can get there in time and same goes for the second clip you need to understand how to balance the registration in that area its not about push and if it is you are only getting there for a short time not a career
VideoHere
It's not about push, no argument there, but too many beginners think they're going to build a powerful voice completely avoiding any kind of strain...... How can you learn to avoid something like strain or constriction if you've never experienced it?
Danielformica
dont push like your pooping yourself or grunt and try to push through it. sing like an extension of your big boy voice without squeezing or constricting anything. you are going to build a big powerful voice through resonance not volume or strain but like tapping a bell and it rings out loudly
