  1. I liked it! I had only heard your covers of highway to hell and rainbow in the dark, so it was nice to hear you in a lower range. While I was listening, I was scratching my head trying to figure out who your vocals were reminding me of and then it dawned on me "Ah, the singer of Killswitch Engage". Which might seem like an odd conclusion to come to, but when I hear his voice I think of opera, not sure why but I do and while I was listening to you the same thing popped into my head. It's something with the delivery of the notes and how you hold them that reminds me of that. Anywho, well done on the song! :D

(In case you are curious about the singer you reminded of here is a link for you to check out.)

  2. I definitely dig your tone in this song, and as ronws said, crappy mic or not it sounds good to me!

You might want to check out mxl usb mics. If you don't already have an interface and all the bells and whistles then they'd be worth looking at. I use a mxl usb.006, was the only cardiod condenser usb mic that guitar center had and I have no complaints about it. Completely plug and play as well. http://www.guitarcenter.com/MXL-MXLUSB-006-Powered-Condenser-Microphone-103999496-i1169096.gc this is the one I have, for 100 bucks it's hard to beat. They do have better ones such as the .007 and .008, but as we all know, when you go up in quality you go up in price(100 more for the .007 and 70 more for the .008). As far as quality check this link http://soundcloud.com/sl0wkarate/apology-acoustic-vocal-cover-incomplete . It's mastered but you can still get a feel for how it records(i record in my room so I do get issues but sound reflecting off walls just so ya know.) Just throwing this out there as an option for you to look in to :)

  3. Well, I was going to say that your voice is really suited for the material from City and Colour. Then, you did "Second and Sebring." And totally proved my point that you could go one step beyond Linkin Park. That guy would do a rattle for distortion, where as you are going full-tilt screamo. Excellent.

Thanks :D I actually had a song I wanted to record yesterday to try to add some distortion, not full on scream, but just distortion as you had mentioned before. Failed to do so because I managed to walk myself into a root canal so I kind of lost all motivation after that hah. 3:30am-8:00am work, 8:30am-10:30am root canal, 11:00am-7:00pm vegetable. Hopefully I'll get it done in the next few days, but if you are curious as to what song it is then just watch the video below. And just so I know, is this the type of distortion you were talking about? Mainly during the chorus is what I'm referring to.

  4. A Day To Remember - If It Means A Lot To You

    City and Colour - Waiting

    City and Colour - Confessions

Of Mice & Men - Second and Sebring

With Confessions I struggled, it's sang in such a low tone that I have a hard time holding. So it's a bit shaky and I kind of jump around a little(or atleast I feel like I do) in pitch. Second and Sebring was my first attempt at a fast paced song with screams. If it means a lot to you, is the older song I mentioned. Recorded about 4 months ago.

  5. @Snax: Thanks :) Definitely a a confidence booster when it comes to my voice.

@ronws: I'll have to mess around with that and see what I can produce, I always find it entertaining trying out new things(my girlfriend was highly annoyed when I got my hands on auto tuning plugins... everything sounded like t-pain, I just couldn't resist).

I'm working on uploading a few more songs I've got recorded. Ones kind of old but two of them are from the last 2 weeks. So stay tuned!

  6. Billy Corgan in a soup can.

That gave me a good chuckle. This version with the new setup sounds MUCH better, I'm able to hear so much more coming through the headphones.

Singing like original is something I do because I don't know my range and know really know what my voice is. I just kind of go, and what I can do I do and what I can't, well, I try anyways and keep the recording for a laugh later on.

  7. @ronws: Thanks :) I felt like I had a pretty hard time with this song actually, Mr. Craig likes to fluctuate his voice around(vibratos?) and I tend to have a hard time doing that, or at least the way he does it. I definitely feel more comfortable in the tune of Dallas Green. But I couldn't resist trying one of Mr. Craigs songs.

@Ronron: I'm glad you like it :) I tend to be really selfconcious about my voice cause I'm working with a lisp on my S's(I pronounce them out of the side of my mouth...) and it's all I manage to hear when I listen to myself heh. I do have a bad habit of being pitchy, mostly when I'm not 100% confident in my ability to do a song. Just means I need to practice more :)

  8. I liked it, a lot. It has a very calming feel to it, or at least that's what I took away from it and I think your voice complimented it well. I will say that your lows in the beginning aren't very audible(miles/blanket) I wouldn't have been able to tell what you were saying if you hadn't posted the lyrics, but this is coming from a joe shmoe who is just starting to take singing seriously. I did download it, and yes it's already on my ipods work mix.
