Thanks for the feedback all. I realised after posting that a member called Onacor had posted the same song last week - on balance I prefer his version!
Although you've all been pretty kind I am aware of some technical work that needs to be done in terms of control etc. I find it very difficult to really let go vocally in these as my recording conditions are not the most private/soundproof so hope to play around a bit with this tune and others when I can find somewhere else to record.
Thanks again.

Well your range is obviously ok and you can sing on pitch but what you need to work on is timing, diction and breath control. There is a lot more to it that you will pick up from any good course but those things you can actually work on yourself without any external help.
Listen to the originals/your favourites versions of songs such as "You Raise Me Up" and try to match the timing and pronunciation - not the tone or timbre as you want that to be unique to you.
What a good course will also teach you is how to listen better and I think from your recording that although you roughly know the words and tune to that song you hadn't really listened in depth to a performance on which to base yours.
Hope that helps and keep working on it - how long it takes to improve is entirely different for everyone so no point guessing that.
- Should just add that I am neither a professional vocalist nor coach but they are just my observations.

Hi,
I love the Shinedown acoustic version of this song so this is a short stab at that version - just the first couple of verses and chorus but would appreciate honest appraisals.
Many thanks

Well if you think you need to improve you've got one heck of a foundation to start with. Sounded great to me.

Ron - appreciate the feedback. Yes nasality can be a problem for me - I need to work on that but I know where I'm going wrong which I guess is a start - just need to project differently.
I've actually loved the Skynyrd version of this for years but I just like the simple acoustic arrangement of this one. Can't wait to hear that Freebird take - the original is pretty simplistic guitar wise anyway
Onacor - thanks. I guess being from England I have the disadvantage of not naturally sounding like most of the artists I like - I think your voice just sounds very natural. Still trying to find my own sound really so appreciate all the feedback.
