  1. Excellent tone and control. I really liked it.

Thank you David. I don't really have good control yet of my voice through the first passagio area but i'm trying to sing more again and strengthen the supporting muscles. I should do warm ups before singing too but always seem to just hit record and sing when i'm inspired in the moment.

  2. Hi, Snax, nice to have you back and what a comeback! Too bad the mix/sound quality of your voice isn´t top notch IMO. The mix is in the vein of Journey but i think you overdid it this time. I would have liked your beautiful voice more present, it sounds a little blurry for this type of song.

Hey Olem, thanks for your honesty my friend. :) I did use far more reverb than i would normally use for sure. If you listen to the Journey version, Steve perry's voice is also very washed out with effects. It's almost like they only used the reverb aux return channels and took out the main vocal!

  3. Hey all, it's been a LONG time since I sang or posted anything here so I wanted to share a track I recorded the other day. This is me trying to song the song Faithfully by Journey. I used a ton of reverb and compression on the vocals to try to emulate the Steve Perry sound on the actual recording. My natural vocal range breaks right where Steve Perry is comfortable so this was REALLY hard for me to do! Hope you will enjoy it and feel free to tell me where you can tell I'm struggling!

  4. Thanks Geno. Style I may have but my actual "technique" needs a lot of work! I do tend to over-sing and push too hard. I wish I could win the lottery and then spend as much time on my singing as I'd like to with top vocal coaches. It's frustrating for me sometimes because I do think I have some good potential but I know I don't and can't devote as much time to getting any better as I should.

  5. Hi Jonpall, I'm not sure what my voice would be classified as to tell you the truth. I wasn't too close to the mic. I do have a large chest and powerful frame which might be what gives me the full sound? I'm actually built like Tom Jones was in his youth funnily enough and also have a rather large head as he does. I know that a large noggin can definitely give a singer a more full sounding upper register. As for my vibrato, it just comes out that way. If I sang more or did a proper warmup beforehand I think it would speed up and become more natural sounding. Thanks for the comments and suggestions all. I hope to do better next time around! :)

  6. THanks Ron. I can "feel" the newer rasp more in the back of my throat. Like I'm gargling water (or beer!). The usual rasp I do is more forward in placement or at least it feels that way. If you listen closely you'll hear where I have to slip from one rasp to another as the vocals go up in pitch. I wish I could just use one rasp all the way through my range but that still eludes me thus far. When I post comments on other singers and praise their rasp I'm being very sincere. It's not an easy thing to do well and is something that I struggle with constantly. Kudos to those of you who have mastered it!

  7. Sounds great Mike. What type of rasp is that and what are you doing differently to acheive it?

I really don't know if I can explain it but there's more constriction and I feel like my voice is placed more further back in my throat if that makes sense? In this song I actually use both the new rasp and the one I used to use which is brighter sounding. I prefer the newer method of achieving the rasp as far as the sound go. It had a smoother sound and doesn't sound so much like Beavis! lol
