  1. Man, that was outstanding. It sounded absolutely nothing like Steve Perry, and that's just fine. Your impeccable dynamics and choice to dress the song up your own way is what made it totally work here. I would venture to say you could sing this anywhere, and NO ONE would complain about it not being a clone of the original. Your rendition would stand on legs of its own.

    Now, MY only complaint is that you didn't finish the song! :lol:

  2. Thanks Vali :D It may be a cliché but it's true :> Can't really see myself as whole unless I sing ._.;

    Indeed.

    As I said, it may sound hokey, but it's oh so true. People, places, and relationships will come and go in our lives, but music will always be there, and even if doesn't lead you to the success you desire, the satisfaction and release of it all is hard to beat if you really love what you're doing.

  3. I still find it fascinating that you've taken on such a wide range of genres with your covers, and not once have I felt you've made any dramatic stylistic changes to fit the song. Your voice simply works for everything. I feel that kind of "universal voice" is what everyone should strive for, instead of the exhausting task of essentially trying to be a "character singer", if that makes any sense.

    Very good job here.

  4. Cool clip. There were moments where your highs sounded a bit like Labrie.

    Remember Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon? He once said that the music DT did and more particular, John Petrucci's guitar playing was "stupid". DT continue to flourish, and are still alive for people to complain about.

    Now, what was it that happened to Mr. Hoon? Who's stupid now?

    Wow, I never knew that. What a crappy thing for him to say.

    Mike Stone, who played guitar for Queensryche for a while, once tried pushing his unsolicited guitar tips on to John Petrucci, which led to John adding a line to Dream Theater's song "As I Am" aimed at Stone.

    Hey, wait a minute. You're not related to Mike, are you? :P:lol:

  5. I'm as "city slicker" as they come, but have always had enough country music fans in my family, that I was exposed to a lot of it. There is a lot I like, and a lot I don't like. Overall, I prefer pre-2000's country music.

    But anyway....everything totally clicked in your clip, and I'm not the least bit surprised. Good stuff. You stayed away from spicing it up with a completely feigned accent, which was a smart move. Most singers who take that route usually overdo it to the point of coming across as parody.

  6. I must have overlooked the Foreigner cover the first time around, but just gave it a listen. Really good.

    I remember a while back, the issue of versatility in singing came up on the forums, and the question of "what does having a versatile voice even mean?" was raised.

    I would say your voice is a good answer to that question. So far, I've heard you cover Journey, Foreigner, and Hall and Oates. In none of the clips does it sound like you made any changes to your style, and it's worked. Nothing sounds contrived, it just fits. It would be interesting to hear you cover a country song. I'd bet the proverbial farm (no pun intended) it would work.
