  1. I guess it depends on the vocalist, for example when Dio sang the line "like some neverending wheel" in holy diver, he stayed true to the vowel and sang whIIL on a C5, not whEEHl. When cornell sings "the day i tried to live", he sings lEEHv on a C#5. Experiment with vowel sounds and shades and listen to the way others shape them, thats one of the best advices I received on the forum!

  2. I'm no expert, but you seem to be singing with a lot of closed vowels, especially during the Man in the box chorus, like fIIIIId my eyes, jIIIIsus christ, doesnt that tire out your voice faster than if you were to sing the vowels more open towards Eh, like Layne sings it? Cornell also opens up the vowels on the higher notes.

Other than that, I liked the Man in the Box cover!!

  3. I could open the video, watched it, were you going for an AC DC feel on the high D5s? I think its just too high, it sounds like a "fake" voice, doesn't blend with your lower register, its disconnected. I remember seeing another original song of your band, where your bandmates were complaining that you were singing too high or something like that, but I thought it was sounding ok, your higher register was blending better.

The guitarist did a nice solo, the backing vocals could use some improvement.

  4. Nice attempt. It's a tricky song! A heavier upper range would do it more justice.. Keep in mind; Tony Kakko is a baritone, yet he takes (took) notes such as E above tenor C in full chest (not curbing or overdrive mind you (even if he oftentimes overdrives such notes, which many people thinks is impossible)). He could do things that would make even high tenors jealous.

Could you show me where he goes that high and in CHEST voice, because thats not only impossible but I also checked a video on his higher range notes and he doesnt sound that chesty, its just strong head/mixed voice.

  5. Hey, guys, this is footage from the first gig of my band, it was acoustic at a birthday party. I was kinda holding back because I didnt want to be much louder then the instruments.

If you click on the youtube channel, you can also find covers of HIM-Wicked Game, Pearl Jam-Alive and Alex Clare-Too Close.

By the way, please select at least 480p for quality, it also changes the sound quality.

    So, what do you think?

  6. Hi, this is a song that we are working on, we wanted to do a dirtier version of the original. Normaly I dont play bass so I was kinda confused at some point with singing and reading lyrics/playing, but I think it turned out pretty good. And you get to see me in a video :P

  7. Well, I can speak for myself, I like challenging songs, it just pushes me to sing songs that im still not supposed to sing, on my level I mean. And since im young and hasty, it just makes things worse :)

But you are saying that its maybe the basics that im missing - well isnt breath support one of the basics ? Im not looking for a quick fix -> its obvious thats not gonna happen. I just need a direction or an advice, thats it, since music is just a hobby for me and im studying to become a doctor, I am never going to train so hard as you did, but that doesnt mean i should just give up singing that song right? ;)

  8. Thanks, maybe I am pushing too much, yeah, maybe thats why my intercostal muscles get tired and i dont have the energy to support the next line.. I'm goingo to try singing it lighter and without rasp next time, to see what happens :)

I checked Fair to Midland, they sound very cool, the problem is that if I introduce them to my band for example with the song Musical Chair, Im pretty sure at least the bass player is going to hate me, it sounds pretty technical...

  9. Hello there, this is an audio recording from my band's last rehearshal, we played the song only once or twice till now, so we are still working on the mistakes, so to say.

But I'm starting to feel that at my level its impossible for me to sing this DAMNED chorus, I mean, I've heard Cornell singing this live and he also seems like he is straining all over the place, and since I like me some challenge I decided to introduce this song to the band.

So, what exactly is my problem, what am I doing wrong? The chorus goes like B4 A4 G4 and I seem to be able to nail the first "Nail in my hand, from my creator, you gave me a life now, show me how to live" and then I have this choking feeling in my mouth/throat and feel like I dont have enough energy to sing the rest of it, as you can hear my voice starts thinning out and sounding shit(the first part is also a bit strainy though...). And after that my lower back feels like I did heavy deadlifting and Im just exhausted. The thing is my voice doesnt feel tired or hurt after that, I just rest for 1 min and can sing some more...

I have a couple of theories, for example that I am just taking too much breath in and tensing, so my throat tenses.

Or that my support is just not strong enough yet. I don't know, suggestions?

Here is it, the chorus starts at 1:23, this "choking" feeling starts around 1:36, u can hear it at 1:40. Second chorus at 2:13 and CHOKE on 2:22. The second is just plain painful to listen....but please bear with it :D

Recorded with a camera, I just extracted the audio, so the quality is not awesome.

    Thanx

  10. Hi, guys, seems that Queensryche are pretty popular around here, funny thing I knew almost nothing about Geoff Tate besides that he sang in the "We are stars" song with Dio and co. So, I searched a bit and liked this song, Take hold of the flame, I didn't know it so good as u can hear on the recording, but I would like to have some feedback on my mixed/head voice, does it sound ok? Would it sound good through a mic? I kinda messed up on "signs of unforetold" and "edges of your mind", too much chest I guess..

    So here it is https://www.box.com/s/eeaa3d78cqj71gvjahox

Recorded with a samsung galaxy smartphone, just added some dinamics processing with adobe audition because the high notes were kinda loud, although i was 2 foot from phone.
