I would have never picked this up in a million years. Is this the Speech Level Singing stuff?
Just singing technique really... He went for a kind of "unsupported shout" on the G4s, so more belt type vowels but without the necessary energy/body engagement. You need to make a choice: belt it and really go for it or sing them in more of a mixed quality. Makes sense?

Hey Bono!
Your vowels start to go wide and the larynx too high in your 1st passage (top notes in the song). You are making it but the tone becomes strained and shouty. You loose the nice warm tone you have in your lower range which I like. A couple of tweaks and this cover will be very good

It's funny how you can often tell an sls singer from a non sls one
Yes I did take some lessons.

Hey Matakka,
You need to find a stronger sound and sing into your voice more. Do you vocalize? I would suggest focusing on your lower range and finding a solid chest voice there. I think that would solve some of your intonation problems as well.

Good job!
Btw: did you train with sls? Sounds like it.

Thanks Bono, I'll try!

Hey Killer! No I don't think I'm flat here... at least no more than usual...
But the recording quality is really (I mean really!) bad so that might explain what you're hearing. I'll try and do proper recordings soon (mic and headphones). This is just the laptop mic picking it up. Backing track on the computer, no headphones not even proper speakers...

Thanks for listening!
Clapping/slapping/whatever sounds really weird, cause it's so sparse and I was listening to the vocal kind of in it's own meter. The clapping effect exaggerates the changes in time, I think. So maybe make sure you clap at regular intervals. 1,2, Clap, 4, (faster) or (1, clap, 2 clap) every time?Yes I know lol
Tone is good. Range is good. Pitch is pretty good, although some of the runs were really frenzied, certainly faster than I could do accurately.
So pitch is not as good as tone and range? haha I know what you mean! I do sing a little bit out of tune... the opening note "born" for instance...

Here's a short sample from my practice session today. Don't have anything better to post so I'll post this lol: https://app.box.com/s/qk5ch7vouhwukucfb428

I usually stick to the more up beat stuff and shy away from the ballads... But today I decided to try and sing this one hope it's not too bad haha

Chest voice is not some magical thing you need to find. I would need to hear you speak and sing some more to be sure...
but from that little sample I heard you just need to get more "grounded" in your chest.
Most likely you already speak in your chest voice. So that would mean you are changing your natural voice every time you sing and going into "singing mode". Try to speak the lyrics and then sing them. Are you going to a different voice when singing? You shouldn't! Singing is just sustained speech.
Vocalize on open/wide vowels and hard consonants in your lower range. That means as low as you can to about an F#4. Use a short scale like CDEFGFEDC. You can try an "ah" vowel, "na na na", "ga ga ga", "go go go" or "no". The important thing is that you use your speaking voice and there is energy behind the sound. So say "no" like you mean it! After that pick a song that doesn't go high (no more than about Ab4) and sing it on an exercise that worked for you. Then you can try add the words but keep the feeling the same.
Also, consider taking some lessons. You will progress faster with a good teacher than on your own. Nobody can really help you through text...
