  1. I've been away (in the process of moving and non online related issues), but decided to catch up a bit on this stuff.

MDEW - This is actually a quite nice arrangement and you interpreted it well. I feel like I'm hearing some progress in your vocal development too, a bit more confidence and depth to the timbre, while still very identifiably you.

Ugonna - That was adventuresome and spontaneous. Melodically things got pretty twisty. I like how you kept the melody fresh by including a lot more improvisational things. You weren't close miced, so you wouldn't have the 'studio' sound of some of the other singers. At some point it might be worth trying that if you have not as some of the richness of your timbre may be lost in that setup there.

Magika - You sound pretty much flawless to me on a technical level and I could likely hear this recording and not have anything noticeably off in a radio kind of setting, but at the same time, it sounds 'lived in.' That's one of my favorite qualities of your singing. Even on a studio sounding recording it's hard to take some of the 'human' feeling warmth out  of your performances. I can't imagine you sounding sterile.

Bono - Never heard you take on jazz but your voice is wonderful for it. You have that round timbre with a very identifiable texture. It's silky and stirs the song up nice. I think singing jazz could be great for your development as the meter and phrasing add another dimension that isn't often there in pop/rock.

Wow....you definitely flatter me!! Thank you VERY much...this feedback made my day!!

  2. Some brilliant entries so far!!

MDEW - Very nice arrangement, it creates a unique angle to the lyrics. Will the finished version have percussion? I can definitely hear space for shakers and light drumming (maybe bongos).

Magika - That a really professional sounding recording! Love your voice and the original french lyrics. Did you record this at a studio?

Ugonna - Brilliant work. I like the variations you add 1:20 onwards. The melody you sing at "my darling" at 2:00  is so good!

thank you very much for your nice review! It's a home-recording done with the MaxBookPro version of GarageBand and the T.bone SC 440 USB mic. So happy that you thought it was a studio recording!

  3. Excellent rendition. Nice tone, smooth vibrato and phrasing. You have a great grasp of the dynamics of the song; you know when to push the volume and when to pull it back. My only negative would be the delivery. It lacks heart and soul. It's an excellent exercise in singing the song on pitch but it lacks something.

Do another take and sing it with more passion. Feel the lyrics. Imagine you're singing about someone you know. Get inside the song. The melody should draw me in emotional. Go back and listen the Bill Withers; you can hear his heart breaking.

    You're almost there.

The lack you felt is due to the wrong key! Unfortunately I got only the Bill Withers file (which is obviously in a male key) but now I found an mp3 file in female key and I think I will record it again....thank you for your nice words!

  4. You have a really nice voice. There's a vintage quality to it. Kinda reminds me of Roberta Flack. My only criticism is the backing track. I just thought that the cheesiness of the backing music took away from the overall feel and the beauty of your voice. But the backing music isn't whats being critiqued here. You have a really nice voice. My only advice is, get a band together and go play some gigs!

Thank you very much......I started performing live on 1992 and I haven't stopped yet. This is just home-recording, using mp3 files I find on line! Thanks for listening e reviewing my cover!

  5. Here I am Aravind. Well I am quite new to this forum so I don't know how your singing was before this cover.....my ears were pleased by your interpretation and your vocal emission but I think this key now is not the best for you: the high notes are a little forced so maybe to get a perfect cover you should change key (1 o 2 semitones down) till your technique allows you to reach them seamlessly. By the way It's a good job, really a good one......well done!!
