You'd know your own strain better than I would. So I'd trust yourself. And to be honest, straining a little here and there isn't something to be that worried about. Everyone I know here has strained and lived to tell the tale. :4:

There is a shift in timbre up there so unless it's artistic choice it may not be optimized for you yet. It's practice man. I wouldn't be surprised to see you more technically skilled than a lot of folks here one day. If you've got the passion, you've got the drive, and are moving forward. There are certain coordination that will be more flexible and easier to use to navigate certain pitches.

So there's like talk singers. I can love that. I'm the big Lou Reed fan here. But most everyone else had to have an open mind at some point and likely either consciously or subconsciously had to make adjustments.

Right, I really want to sound a certain way I think lately especially I've been compressing my sound a ton rather than using various resonances and different coordinations.  I want it to sound good to me but I don't want to be falling flat.  Also I notice this song that I could use a brighter configuration and perhaps a darker resonance or a more edgey/steely resonance to make it sound good and possibly fix pitch issues.

work on floating on top of the pitch. I love the killers they are one of my favorites.

The killers are freaking great.  Hot Fuss is one of the best albums ever.  Also yeah I'm trying to hold those pitches but without getting too airy so I've got a lot of crackly distortion or turbulence or whatever you want to call it.  Good advice though thank you!

  3. I think the resonance doesn't shift enough, it sounds like you're using alot of twang and leaning on that is probably why it seems not varied enough.  But you could still vary it with the twang if you make subtle adjustments and add some portamento.  at 5:09 when you sing clear the resonance is unstable but that mix sounds like it would be more natural and less twangy if you could find the right vowel mods airflow and tract formation to sustain it.

Thanks for listening Collin, I kind of like Randy Newman. It could be worse and I could sound like Tom Petty.

Part of my issue is tone, The funny thing about tone issues is that you have to sound like someone and sometimes it is what it is, a matter of physical make up or it is about coordinations and resonance. What if I find out that i have everything balanced and I still sound like Randy? Or are just meaning the style of singing? A talky singy thing? This was first draft just getting an idea of how to approach the song and to have something to contribute to the BeeGees Challenge.

It's a good first start, I know with more recordings you'll maximize it's potential for beauty!  Can't say what you should do different other than keep going at it! :bang:

  5. What I've noticed recently is my speaking voice varies quite often, and I've been trying to incorporate it into my singing to sound similiar to what I sound like when I speak.  Also I've been working on speaking from my diaphragm to make my voice sound more attractive lol.  I get what you're saying about singing being different from speaking but I was purposely relaxing my vibrato in certain areas to make it sound more like speaking.  During the chorus I was trying to get a whiney sort of inflated sound and I was trying to have my voice crack as I approached eyes it worked pretty well at 1:38.  I get what you're saying about the ah going closer to an oh because it feels more rounded.  I'll take that advice though and apply it for improvement.

  6. The first Chorus gave me goosebumps just a little bit, but after that the choruses didn't excite me as much until the end.  Perhaps you could have really gotten into it with a passionate inflection on those choruses, like hell yeah it's alright now okay.  I liked the verses alright 0:28-0:35 was my favorite variation of your vocals, personally I would've preffered to have heard a deeper timbre throughout similar to the first line.  The high notes are fine but I wish they would be stressed and then relaxed instead of just pressed like they're being rushed.  Overall that was a good take on the song

  7. Who wants to challenge me to a friendly competition to see who can record a better version of Death of a Bachelor by Panic at the Disco!  This song has a killer chorus that is really fun to sing but easy to mess up so if anyones up to it this could be fun.  I'd also be happy to accept any challenges on members favorite songs!

Hi Collin, I think your voice suits this song well. However, it would sound much better, and also be easier for the guys to analyze it, if you recorded with a backing track. I think there is a link to a website where you can purchase backing tracks with a great variety of songs and styles. Cheers and keep on rocking!

Thanks bro! I was putting on a slight punk rock accent for the fun of it.  Please tell me how do you record songs usually?  With headphones on and the track playing?  Or if I have a nice enough mic can I isolate the sound of my singing while playing music in the background to sing along to?
