  1. As you would for a mighty chorus, you double the vocal line - you sing it identically (as close as is possible that is) so you basically have two lead tracks - the magic is that the tiny discrepancies between them makes the vocal line fatter. This is also good practice for learning how to control the voice and providing unyielding consistency at will. With harmonies (low harmonies I sometimes skip doubling since they can be a bit blurry as is), it gives an epic and surrounding feel by having them panned 60-80% left and right (while also having them partially centered in the mix). Make use of stereo :> EDIT: Listen to this, particularly the harmonies in the verse - keep in mind; I can't mix at all, so if something sounds good, I WILL slaughter it in the mix, but, the point is, can you tell that -every- line except the whistling is doubled? https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/parkeraettb-ver (ignore the final chorus, more sour notes than clean ones ;)
  2. Sweet! Be sure to keep us posted Yeah, I did all the harmonies. One important thing I learned from a good friend (who's an incredible musician and producer) is to ALWAYS dub harmonies, and to do it manually. Panning dubbed harmonies = auto-win :>
  3. Hey, thanks for taking the time to listen mate :> I just sing with the song and mute the webcam sound, so that's how I look whenever I sing anyway More fun than having a boring black video with lyrics on top It would of course be tremendously cooler if you do it as a live performance, but personally, I think it's cool to see the person behind the music, regardless of it being pre-recorded This song is simple and straight forward, so it could have easily been done "live", but most things I do nowadays won't do well in a live setting since I love stacking harmonies and blend overs as so there's no single "lead melody" :>
  4. This just got up on YouTube, collab with Slovenia Not what I usually do, but I like it and it was fun
  5. Thanks for the feedback Ron you can always shout me a mail if you wanna talk, you know that right? Think is, I like "pretty" :> That's why I'm such a fan of Power Metal (aka princess flower pop schlager metal) So the guitars are not too gritty, but still not surf guitars :> The song in it's entirety will be a very evolved version of this but I will keep the bridge (I loof the harmonies <3) " They creep, under your skin. Fast asleep, they play their games, deep within. just a bite, every single night slowly they bleed you out, wear you thin as dawn betrays you it's lights grow ever dim... .. "and they're gone, they chose to leave me" ridden of a sunrise, a day can never be senseless and forever - welcome to your unreality Chorus - Withering of mind, feel as your fall Weary, hollow eyes gone cold Bitter and denied, endless the stall Leering in behind, eyelids turned mold" Something like that... Thanks Keith, you are spot on; I can't mix at all (I think I've said those words more than my amount of posts on these boards xD) but I always like to put up "rough sketches" since I'm so anxious for feedback in case something is just horribly out of place and needs to go before continuing. The final product will be mixed by my friend who plays the guitar and bass - He actually knows what he's doing unlike moi I do admit to being a delay and reverb whore but when you just stack the same 4th note medium delay on 20 tracks it all blurs into a mess :/ I wish my ear could tell me that WHEN I attempt mixing.. But I guess it's because I know the phrases, the words etc so I hear it all clear because it's already in my head 'dry' ; Any mixing tips are always appreciated, I know you are good at it Keith, I think you mixed.. Was it Still Loving You, Tallulah or Letter To Dana for me? :o
  6. Woah, toughie indeed. I have seen like, eh, TWO heavy metal celloists (cellis?).. Both belonging to Apocalyptica xD Good luck to ya :P
  7. Great job man! Surprising choice of a song but strangely enough you rocked it Now, with a proper instrumental and real mixing this would sound professional :> Keep it up :>
  8. Thanks for the input. Yeah agree, real instruments would be preferable.. Now I just need to find someone who plays the cello and the ocarina xDDD
  9. What do you guys think? I kinda like the intro idea (albeit not the midi sound xD). Singing wise I will adjust things like making a cleaner lead line and more coherent harmonies. https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/najtm-rs-in-da-works Best regards!
  10. Xamedhi, I think the most important thing to understand if you want to sing Helloween songs is that Kiske does NOT use head voice. He has a very special voice that no one has managed to fully understand other than that he does not resort to falsetto/head, only in some VERY rare live contexts. So what you need to do is to start singing in chest voice and learn to control it. Continuing this road will lead to a bad habit that will be HARD to break once you understand and control your voice better - head will be the natural route and it's impossible to have the necessary weight and fullness to it other than at the very top. Just a friendly tip So you heard my SC, cool I mostly post 'works in the making' recorded on the phone so it's mostly very low quality. "Rise" and "No More Of This" are probably the only two professional vocal performances of mine. Keep practicing and you will do great things!
  11. You sing basically everything in head/falsetto while Kiske don't. Sorry mate. Good try but you can't do this song without chest. I can try to record it to show you how Kiske does it (if I could find a good instrumental that is xD)
  12. Here's the thing, I just came up with some chords on the phone and then sang whatever popped into my head. The problem is, I can't play the guitar worth crap, and right now I have NO idea how to go to a chorus from the second verse. Right now it's an awkward sounding bridge after ; So this is kinda both "what do you think about the vocals?" as well as hoping that maybe someone has an idea on where to go from the second verse. Don't mind the mixing. It's sung right into the headset of le phone and I'll record it proper when I get the structure of the song done and guitar recorded (anyone who can play the guitar? xD) Anywho these are the lyrics so far.. Seems it will be about an oldie dying with regrets and spite "Piercing me, like spears through my heart are the tears for the years that I've wasted away And the fear's alive, I wear it as a crown falling down Old and grey, pale and dismayed bound to the wails of a man who forgot and the dreams of gold, turned bitter and cold Now I'm folding my last hand" https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/work-in-progress
  13. Haha GOD no! Like I've said before, I can't even mix a gin and tonic The mixing was done by the girl who made the instrumental I also like the mix as my voice sounds so crisp! Here I've been thinking all along that in order to make my voice sound good I need tons of reverb and delay xD
  14. Here's my newest original. This one is different from much of the other stuff I've posted; I sing pretty much mid range throughout, focusing a bit more on melody and delivery. Basically the only high notes are the harmonies so might not be of much interest to these boards https://soundcloud.com/moronrock/warrior
  15. I am also interested! I have studio experience and have a broad register as well as control over my voice. All melodies and harmonies are created by me, as well as lyrics (the first one is supposed to be "silly-anthem", the other two has more depth.) I use ProTools and got recording gear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyYTNLtIw88 And a ballad; https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/no-more-of-this
  16. I did not have a lot of time so there were very few re-takes but I really wanted to sing this one for a girl I hold very dear.. Unfortunately we can not see eachother again for some time.... https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/i-drove-all-night-k-ver
  17. "Somethin, somethin about a peacock feather", there I deliberately flip to falsetto for "artistic purposes" =p You are're right about the 1:33 note, it's way off. It sucks hard that I'm not hearing that when recording, but the day after when I've restet ; It's silly because being that deaf I reckon I should miss far more notes xD Thanks for listening =)
  18. Thanks Keith! Keep singing and you will probably just get an "Oh... Was it really that easy?"-moment one day. Basically all technique I've learned has come in the form of "aha"-moments when it's just there... The practice is not in learning the techniques, but in polishing them and making them sound intergrated with the rest of the voice and THAT takes butchering quite a few songs to get to xD
  19. Thanks Ron The instrumental is 9 minutes long, hah, much more to do xD
  20. I had 16 vocal tracks (yeah I'm not good at organizing) and just slapped same three effects on all tracks (except something sounded different on "And the less, I want to faaaaall",) I wanted it to sound a bit "floaty" but my mixing ear/knowledge couldn't quite match what I aimed for haha. All tracks; Compressor - Vocal Leveler Delay - 4th note medium mono delay EQ - Cut Sibilance Thanks for taking your time to listen If you learn ProTools you'll have to mix and master mah stuff! xD
  21. So this time I just went to town on this same piece and tried weird stuff (like whistling halfway through ; Gotta hand it to myself though, going from whistling that burst of notes to nailing the straight note in the same take, I think that was cool Inwards whistling FTW). One major thing I learned was how to add distortion and attitude without compromising my "soft" voice. Yay! Alas, this one is mucho incoherent, and I can't mix or master worth shit. I'm damn well better at being pregnant than mixing ; Why ProTools have no automagical "Yeah"-option? https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/one-might-consume-roadkill
  22. Nothing? NOTHING!?!? Damn you Margaret, I've given you my life, my love and what do I get in return? NOTHING! Except of course "Bye Bye Johnny" by the band Return. It used to be our song damnit but now... Now our past glories are but mere shades in our continuously fading canvas that we painted together with a palette rich in the colors of love... Do you remember Margaret? DO YOU REMEMBER!? Not sure if I'm stricken by a stroke or striking out, but it's nappy time for this guy. Bon Chance, Bon Scott and Bon Ansjovis.
  23. A friend wanted song on a text she wrote, so I figured, perfect opportunity to just experiment xD It's a disaster in term of coherency and context xD It's not even half finished, so I figured I'd post this here in case I scrap the idea entirely and do it more generic. https://soundcloud.com/archdementh/slask-f-r-fr-ken Cheers <3
  24. Yeah, it means something different entirely here in Sweden apparently. Not sure why :o
