  1. Thanks a bunch for the comments guys! Yeah somehow this song always gets alot of reactions even though I don't think the notes are so high... But yeah high notes really do touch a special place!! A year ago I had a big problem with 2 places in this song - I couldn't sing "I cross over borders but I'm still there now" without sing "stehll". Now I can sing the "ih" without the voice breaking and still have power!!! :D Also the last high part "how could I leave her - where would I start?" my voice would break 80% of the times I tried for the note and I had to overdrive it. Now I don't and it never cracks so I guess I'm doing something right!!! However it also makes it so that those "high notes" doesn't at all SOUND high...

There are alot of things I'd like to change... For example, when you have something as simple as a bass-line or a drum-beat, it's impossible to get off-rhythm. But in this song you only have the melodic sways of the background music and it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to feel the rhythm in my body even if I count inside, stomp my foot or whatever...!!! But I really need to fix this!!!

Also I think I'm looking for a smoother 'more professional'-sounding tone. I like my dynamics... The smooth and fragile light singing and then switching to a more powerful sound... However I think it sounds very... very amateurish... And since it's something that I guess takes time, I love to get started right away, perfecting a balanced and professional tone...

Haha, it's a tall order and sounds very pretentious I guess but.. Thanks for hearing me out!! xD

  2. Hey guys... Sorry for hogging up so much space :( This guy at the local pub started filming stuff and it's kinda nice to get to hear how you sound after a few cold ones :o

Anywho... Here I attempt Chess - Anthem.. I REALLY SUCK at the rhythm and you know.. Feeling the beat... BUUUUUUT.... Well.. No further excuses.. BLEH!!!

(sorry Ron, it's not Lorelei... Yet... :P)

  3. Wow man that sounded really great! You take those higher notes so easy without them sounding strained or shouted at all... Does it feel effortless as well? Really good job and I must say that you've improved ALOT this last year!!! It was a treat!

Regarding tenor notes, how do one know what is what? My absolutely favorite singer, Michael Kiske is apparently NOT a high tenor regardless of him singing extremely high notes without falsetto, meanwhile Klaus Meine who doesn't sing as high as Kiske is a real tenor? I guess Kiske has a 'thicker' sound to his notes while Meine has a feathery light tone...?

Anywho, my dream is being a tenor and I can sing light but only to a certain height before I need to swap to falsetto. Was karaoke night last night as well (who woula thunk it! xD) and I sung "Rock you like a hurricane" by The Scorpions.. It doesn't go very high but the verse is sung in a very light manner which I think is really beautiful and I managed to nail every note.. It was really fun!

Hahaha no I know!! I was just caught off guard because I have never once in my life been called good looking haha!! And at that same night I got called femininte more times than I can count by random people... Just funny! :3 I did get a number from a cute chick yesterday and luckily she did not wonder wether or not I wore a bra! I couldn't find you on the main site though, curiousity got the better of me :p

  4. Thanks for the kind words ron!! When I'm sober I stand entirely still singing while looking down at the floor haha!!! :P The guys who hop in and do stuff.. I have no idea who they are really but I guess they were cool! :D I love that... :}~

Really big thanks for the looks haha... Never heard that one before! :OOO This night was very weird because 3 (THREE!!!) different people came to me that night and said "Hey man, nice singing.. You're very feminine though!" and two of them asked if I was gay or bi :o That was very weird!

I have not heard The Dubliners version yet but I figure I have some homework to do then :D This song really is perfect in my range there... Unfortunately all rock bands who search for singers want a lyrical tenor.. Something I can't offer so I'm now bandless... Makes me feel like I got nothing to offer good and serious musicians! :(

But I would really LOVE to hear you do the Luke Kelly version!!! Please put it up for listen, you have a fantastic technique when you sing :3

And hmm... I guess you need some sort of connection to reality in order to be able to sing somewhat decent but prior to that song everything became a haze haha :3

    Thanks again!!

  5. Thanks a bunch for the kind words! I don't know much about twang really (I thought it was something you used only in head voice? o_O) but the more I listen to it, the more I hear the errors in my intonation. Most notable is probably the second of four times in the end when I do a different melody on "heart of gold".

I will probably record this one again with a better cam (a friend offered to help me :D)

Ron; Thanks man!!! That really warms my heart! :D I guess that's what we all want, right? To be able to sing from top to bottom!

  6. Ah thanks for the in-depths comment Ronws... I have always made the connection head voice = non-breathy falsetto... You know, when guys speak in "girl voice" which was what I tried to demonstrate. My voice has like.. Two REALLY different coordinations.. Either it's "normal" or it's "falsetto". It's a VERY distinct feeling in my throat when I use either one, or switch from one to another (for example sliding from overdrive to distorted 'falsetto'. It sounds 100% connected but the feeling in the throat shifts big time in one decisive 'flip'. If you know what I mean? That's how I make the distinction.

And yeah, I could hear his head voice in those parts of Hurricane, but those were obvious, there were no "disguising them as chest" if you get what I aim at?

Anyway, I appreciate the clarifications alot. I will continue to sing, sing, SING and see what happens!! :)

  7. My vocal requisites? :o I perhaps should have listened to the original before doing the second recording ;P I was like "I try this high, I know he sings EVEN higher but meh"... I has such a fabulous timbre to his voice... Feather light, clean with no distortion... He doesn't sound the least bit heady, you know what I mean?

A#4 is not really a problem... But tenor C and above, my falsetto/head shines through so badly no matter how I try to disguise it to sound chesty .p

I wish I could get some example how to make head voice sound full chest, going from pure head then changing the tone slowly, blending it over.. Then I could probably imitate it and understand it easier... :3

    Thanks though!!! :D

  8. Okay, so I was closing the café and felt like.. Hmm, I r wants to singz...

Now I can't sing this song even CLOSE to it's original key... This is pretty much as high as I can sing it decently without having to go into falsetto mix or a breathy chest...

I don't quite know the lyrics but... Any feedback is appreciated.. I would love to learn how to sing it higher since this mid range doesn't sound too well.

    /Patrik

  9. Thanks! My falsetto has always been sharp and clean, if I'd like it to but that, I guess is because I'm still only in my 20's... I had a falsetto competition with my father who's 60. He gets quite a bit higher than me (which REALLY ticks me off since he hasn't sung a note or a song in his entire life) but he's airy and rough...

You really sing in falsetto there, in your clip? You have such a sharp and clean high voice!!! I am so much in awe, you have no idea!! :(

I head to falsetto at a few parts in my clip and it sounds way different... You sound way more chesty than I do I think with all the voice connected. I can't do that at all in that register :(

  10. Thanks ALOT for the kinds words ronws... My cell phone has got some killer qualities to it, but I think I need to fiddle some with the sound pickup :P This song is very easy to sing because the highest notes (which aren't very high) can all be sung in either high chest or overdrive. Both of which are easy to maintain. The hardest part of this song was the "But I'm still there now". I had to modify the "ih" to an "eh", in order to overdrive it... Now I don't need to do that so I guess that is some improvement, I've managed to raise my chest voice a bit!

There are so many more things I would love to improve though, emotion for example and... Well... Even if I get my vibrato right and I hit all notes I still sound so VERY "hobby-singerish" ;/

  11. Okay, I know I post this right after the other but I felt I wanted to record another song... Now, I don't perform this song well either BUT, I do so better than the previous one. Here I sing alot more varied but oftentimes pretty full... This is the most comfortable way for me to sing but it just don't do well with very soft and light ballads or powerful metal songs (where you need to be full, but light and piercing...).

I know my voice cracks at the end, I blame that on.. Yeah, what I wrote in the previous thread ;P I got VERY light headed and fuzzy at several points when I recorded this... xD

In the very final part I just tried to do something different and get some volume half-way into the last held-out note... My camera distorted it unfortunately.. It got very loud xD

Anyway... As always, I value any feedback I can get!!!

EDIT: I am AWFUL at counting the beats to the backing track... >_____<

  12. Okay so I try to sing a song where I use a lighter approach.. Trying to be a bit more nasal like the original as well as trying to blend in falsetto at some places where it is just simply to high for me to use chest voice...

Be cautious before listening because I BUTCHER this song...

I have not eaten anything today and just got off work but... Regardless how rested, warmed up and full I am, it still sounds like shit.

This is my "tenor" approach.. I LOVE the lighter, not as full sound... But that's about it...

    As I said, be aware, if you love this song, don't click on the link;

Steven; Glottal closure? Is that they same as keeping it a bit "unbreathy"? I keep it a bit breathy because it allows me to reach higher notes... It's something I discovered not even a year back... Prior to that I always sung more "closed" and "powerful" with my best song to perform being "Anthem" from Chess.. But, for non-overdrive vowels that kind of singing makes my voice crack... Notes like "ee" and oo" cracks at F before tenor C for example... Thanks to this breathiness I can now sing lighter and higher (though, still not at all high)

I would also like to point out that I'm very confident in my diaphragm support... It's one of the few things I feel I got down...

But I would really, REALLY love to get to know more about twang... I read that other thread about examples, the "witch cackle" et cetera... But... I don't want to sound cackle-ish or whiny... I want to sound... clean... :P

Am I totally not getting the point here? I tend to be a bit daft, my apologies :3
