  1. Thank you, it is indeed a big song, therefore very challenging! One of the more difficult songs in the Journey catalog I would say. I agree that Perry uses slightly diffrent vowels which seem to be more "noble" sounding. While listening to the original he also seem to be singing softer, yet still powerful. Now this is imo a question of style isnt it? And few sing a power ballad like that guy. I mean this song is what set the whole 80sballad-circus on the roll.

I've been provided with two backingtracks. This one and "wheel in the sky" by the same group. I'll hade a go on that one some other time in the near future.

  2. Got this backingtrack from a fellow member of this board. Today I figured I give it a shot and this is what came out.

Microphone is Shure SM57, handheld during recording without popfilter but I think I managed to keep it nice and clean.. somewhat.

Didnt know the second verse really so I kind of improvised through that part.

Really not my type of song, singingwise, but in all my modesty I think I did ok.

    LISTEN! :)

  3. Sounds pretty good... but the mix is a bit weird... you sound like your a long ways away from the microphone and a bit too much reverb... but I think its cool... nice singing.

You are spot on! I was singing a bit away from the mic and i thought I'd get away with it.. Ha! You got me. I really need to get myself a pop filter so that I can move closer. I would like to know, how the sound is affected from singing a bit from the microphone versus getting up close?

I am actually really lazy when it comes to sound production in general. I ususally end up using some standard presets in cubase for reverb on the vocals. Really not knowing exactly what Im aiming for..suggestions?

  4. Hello! Found this forum just recently..you guys really got it all down here with a lot of different perspectives..great stuff!

All right! This is the band that I front it is some kind of Glam/party vibe rock with a lot of melody.

In some songs I aimed for a more raspy tone quality and in some I go for a straight through clean tone. Example. Compare Busy or Flavoured by tragedy to Catch me or bad boy gigolo. I think Im gonna go for that little rasp in the future recordings I dont know...what do you think sounds the best? Any input would be nice...regarding anything!

I can also tell you guys my main influenses...i dunno if they shine through but Ive been heavily inspired by singers like Lou Gramm and Paul Rodgers. Sometimes people also tell me I got some kind of Paul Stanley thing to my voice..im not really sure 'bout that but I do like Paul.
