  1. ?? Taylor swift sucks.. She is popular because of being young, and brings a different element to country / pop music, but honestly can't sing worth crap... OP is much much better then Taylor..

I think you sounded good doing this song.. but there was no "emotion" to it.. just going through the motions type of thing (for me)...

We now know you can sing... now you need to entertain...

  2. I see where you are going stylistically with the extra air flow..

I think there is a place to do it, and you can trick your projection to sound "airy" without actually being overly airy.. Problem is Amatuer, is that you will dry out your chords and eventually, it will be extremely hard to correct that in the future, especially if you ever want to sing more powerful.

Overall, I enjoyed your tone, and think if you cleaned it up with less air, and built on the support mechs that Keith mentioned, you have something cool going on.

Answer to your questions ---- 2nd one for the verse..

  3. Good job bud..

The mix issue, is just that.. I understood every word you sang, and your diction is good..

The mix - as someone pointed out is extremely MUDDY... You need to be riding the wave on top of the sonic, not in the tube.

What mic was used, doesn't sound like a wide mouth condenser, as your mid's are missing... -- more like a sm58..

This will cause issues as well...

  4. HAHA.. that was entertaining the response to Ronws.. sorry man.. but it was... lol.

    Listen Sourtulip,

If you want to sing, then you WILL sing. Do you have the potiential to sing -- YES.. everyone does unless there is a medical reason why you can't.

Don't let me, or anyone else deter you from it if it is something you want to do.....

With that said, (I just commented on someone elses thread about 5 minutes ago that was similar to this), you will need to really really work hard at developing your support, technique and tone.

To start, you need to pick a great vocal coach.

Best to go with someone local that you can see in person, however - sometimes that cost and ability is just not there.... So, online courses can do wonders for you.

I've said it before on this forum, but I really dig the methods and what I read (I am not a member of any course) from Ken Tamplin at : www.kentamplinvocalacademy.com

His course (to me) seems to hit the nail on everything you would possible need to become as good as you can.

A lot of people said Robert Lundi course is great too.

You will get lovers of the SS method (brett manning), but if you google his course (not SLS, but SS) you will see more negative comments about his course then anyone else on the web.

Regardless of that, the choice is yours, and ANY COURSE you pick and concentrate / dedicate yourself on practicing, will improve your voice(some more then others)....

So, whatever bud... do what you love to do... Match the note on the bass, or guitar, or literally BREAK DOWN vocals from your favorite artist... List to a sentence they sing, or certain note, and Match it...

RECORD YOURSELF - every time.. so you can compare between what you are doing, and what you are hearing..

    it will come...

    That's it... rock on..

  5. Hum.. Didn't sound like singing to me.

The tone, support, pitch, flow do not sound good at all ---- AT THIS POINT of TIME..

You will need to really work on breathing correctly, actually singing phrases, doing A LOT of scale warmups, etc..

Find yourself a great vocal coach... It will be a long hard road, but you WILL be a singer if you put the time into it.

  6. Listening to the music again, I actually dig the sound of it now... some reason the bass wasn't emphasized first time I listened to.... still follows a typical feel of that genre of music, which is good and commercial..

She has a great voice (especially with the additional details you provided on your 2nd post).

    To answer your queries :

    1. I can not see any reason why you shouldn't be doing more work with her..

    2. I do not see the potential in her making it big time because although commercial, she sounds generic to whats already out there - but then again, look at some of those that did make it... my dog sounds better then them... damn new rock...

    3. continued from #2, I don't hear anything that "pops" which isn't done already out there in a unique vocal. In fact, (especially around the breaks), she has a lot of Rhianna tone to her voice.

But over all, you should continue to work with her, as she does have talent. Maybe it's the wrong song for her, maybe the material prevented her from showing emotional intonations... Who knows... hard to judge with one song, and I'm no professional anyway...

Hell, I thought Katty Perry was going to be a one hit wonder...

  7. You need better breath control, support to project your voice and help with staying in pitch.

Your tone isn't bad as it bears its head from time to time, but without the other elements it gets lost and the overall perspective isn't pleasing.

Breathe from your stomach and take a breath before every line you sing. Try standing up and keep your back / spine straight. Open your mouth wider and try to keep your tongue down -- tip of tongue touching back of bottom teeth. Always have a feeling of pushing down on the diaphragm slightly - this will regulate the airflow and help with the pitch issues.

When you are singing the higher parts , push down on your diaphragm like you are going to the washroom more.

  8. I found your voice to be way to covered *LIke your nose is blocked*right out of the gate, and you really need to pronounce your words.. It was hard to understand the first " Blue Lake " you sang...

I don't know how your tone will be, since it will change dramatically when you sing with more mask ...

You'll see the difference if you say " NA NA NA NA NA " like kids do when they say " You can't catch me.. NA NA NA_NA_NA"...

You should feel a slight vibration in your nose and face area.
