I have a strange urge coming on to to re-record all the Blaze Bayley era songs....

Many thanks All. I also got VERY positive feedback from a few other muso sites I posted it.

For those of you who are familiar with the original, or go and listen to it, you will notice a fair few smallish changes to the guitar and vocal lines and harmonies, they arent mistakes, we did that just 'cos we could, and it felt better that way. LOL!

I like singing this sort of thing, but, it doesn't stretch me much technically, so in some ways it feels a bit self indulgant, sort of cheating (I'm not sure how).

The acid test is probably the Iron Maiden fan club site, where we will probably post fairly soon.

As with the other Iron Maiden covers I have posted, this was recorded from scratch with my friend Tony Rhodes. I did vocals and mix, and Tony did guitar, drums and bass.

This was originally a B-Side from 1995, with Blaze Bayley on vocals.

I think you put a finger on a pronunciation problem I have that was a troubling me, which I hadn't quite put a name to. I'll have a think and let you know where I got to with it. I suspect the american sound to some vowels maybe to do with how much I open my mouth.

This is "Unchain Your Brain" is from Gillan's "Glory Road" album (1980). It was the first rock album I ever bought, at the tender age of 15.

This cover was created from the ground up. I did the singing, guitar playing, and bass, mix. I was helped by my friends Ian Burrage (Drums), Jay Schankman (KeyBoards).

the sea has a strong lure. Althugh I grew up on the edge of the Black Country (as you know) in central England, these days I live near the sea (Scarborough). I would miss it if I ever moved away.

This is one of those songs that's sort of ingrained in my subconscious.

Welcome to TMV, Zoelee. You sound just fine to me, so I can't offer any singing advice ... but this isn't my genre, but I am mostly a rock and musical theatre singer!

Your recording was poor though. If you only have access to a phone, at least put it close to you. You picked up a lot of audience noise - I think you had it amongst the audience maybe?, and because it was a distance from you there was quite a lot of room reverb.

I did a few minutes of editing on your track:

* chopping off space at start and end

* reducing applause noise, as it was much louder than the music.

* adjusting overall level and compressing it a little.

You could learn how to do this yourself with some audio editing software, such as Audacity (free). I use Adobe Audition.

Although music is passion, it's not profession. I have a steady job working in IT which is fairly interesting and brings in a regular income.

I have lots of connections with excellent amatuer musicans and semi/ex pro who collaborate on the internet, as you may have guessed, but nothing that would bring in money.

I struggled to get the right delivery for the first line of each verse, David Gilmour almost sounds like he is crying on original, the lines such as "remember when they were young".

For the harmony I listened many times to hear each line that was sung. I think I got close. Some of the voices were female and quite high, which was an interesting challenge. The producer doubled up some of my parts with delays etc. to make it fuller.

This isn't the whole symphony, just the more famous first half (Parts I–V).

This was created from the ground-up together with my musician friends Chris Beaver and Eric Glass doing the various instruments, and me on vocals. Production by Chris Beaver. If you look for either of them on youtube you can find some of the amazing stuff they have done.

Vocals start at about 8'35. On the original, David Gilmour sang the verses, Roger Waters sang the chorus (which are higher), and there were several backing singers (including two women). I did all of the voices on this cover. Figuring out the harmonies was a job of work.

Thanks Olem. What you can hear in the first verse or two is that I found the timing and emphasis particularly hard to get right for them, the more timse I tried it the worse I seemed to get ;)

"Beyond The Door" is from the "In-Between", a new musical by Laura Tidsall. The musical hasn't gone on stage yet, but this is on the concept album, where it is sung by Hadley Fraser. Here's his version:

I was mostly happy with my rendition except that I was trying to sing clean throughout, but I went a bit too "rock" in the higher bits towards the end.

I've never heard the original, so my comments are about your version with no reference to the original.

I sounds to me you are too light in the section up to about 0'30. Also, it feels to me that in the majority of the song more grit would improve the delivery, for example the singing in the driving section starting around 1'00 sounds to polite and nice for rock music to me, and around 2'39.
