  1. mdew haha for real man? tomatoes?

    Jugulator :)

Mr Bounce thank you man, its very cool and helpfull, I try to not murder the language hehe, but some stuff I just don't notice, let me know. I don't think that the accent can go away easily, and probably I will never fool a native, but please let me know when I do the really weird stuff :P.

I actually thought this was your best job when it comes to sounding American, so to speak. The main place I hear it creep in is on the word "world" but I can't tell if it is the 'r' or the 'l', I just know it sounds different.

  2. Thanks guitargeorge for taking time to edit my file. I'm planning on setting up a small and cheap home recording studio. So I can record more. Your tips will definitely be handy.

jaxxie, ConsumingFire, thanks so much for the encouragement.

ConsumingFire, you mentioned throat configuration. I assume this refers to my technique, rather than how my throat is anatomically. This is what I'm trying to get feedback on. I heard a lot of things in this regard: "the facial mask techinque", "make your sound vertical", "sing from your forehead", etc. I have to say I'm not quite getting them. But what you said about having the full body engaged, and support, I assume they are talking about the same thing. It's the whole diaphragm thing isn't it? ;)

I'm a petite woman, 5 feet, 97 lbs. Does this matter at all?

To Lord_Adon, I didn't feel like stretching when reaching those high notes, but it might sound that way. I once hit D flat when doing the warm up exercise. I'm hoping once I can support my voice better, they will sound a bit effortless.

    Thanks guys/gals again!

No, your size doesn't matter at all. Yes I am talking about the technique and not the anatomical design of your throat and yes I am talking about the diaphragm.

Take a look at this master class. You might be able to find some things that really help you from a very good technical teacher.

  3. Sounds amazing! Incredible musicians, your vocals were perfect and the song has a lot of very unique things about it. Your technique sounds very healthy and it has some elements of Gramm, Michael Bolton and even a little bit of Steve Perry at some parts.

If you want some advice, the only problems for me actually had to do with the female vocalist. They weren't really vocal problems as much as they were mixing issues. Some of her lower notes were completely drowned out by the music at a few parts of the song.

  4. It is very, very good.

Not sounding exactly like the opera singers is coming some from not have quite as good of support (Takes many years to get very good for this style) and part of it is from your throat configuration. You need the whole body a little bit more engaged to get a fuller sound. Your sound is more full than 99% of female singers that get paid to sing in this world.

I can't help you too much as I do not know as much about the female voice. I can tell you that you very good and with refining can be even better.

  5. It is pretty good man! You can work with that. The biggest issues were actually with your accent (Where are you from) on words like this, these, etc. Your vowels are pretty solid though. You have a few issues in your upper range but your voice is connected well and has pretty good consistency throughout your range.

Keep going man, you have good ability!

  6. This is very, very good and there is not much to really critique you on. Since you really want something to work on, I'll tell you what I think.

The only thing I hear is some very small support issues at some places. You generate great support when you are belting but sometimes keeping a consistent flow for a run gives you a little bit of trouble. May I ask what your approach to support is and how you have trained it? Are you dropping all of your support on the low notes?

  7. I agree completely. The chorus is really high for me to sing. I need to work more on that. The high notes are much easier to sing than the high chest voice notes in the chorus!

I think the chorus is giving you more trouble because you are singing it darker and more chesty than the song actually is. I actually like that style a little more but if you wanted to make it headier it would sound closer to the original and be easier to pull off.

  8. Is that really your voice or is that your vocal style on that particular song? It is natural as a new singer to try to copy others technique. I could imitate others vocals pretty well when I first started but you need to get the basics first and then learn how to apply different styles. If not, your technique will essentially be the same as the singer you are covering and that is not always a good thing. Regardless, you will not be able to really find your voice until you learn some basics. I think you have a pretty decent ear and some good areas of tone for a new singer. You are definitely better than most beginners and have good potential.

If you want to get started improving I would recommend some videos that I will link below. I would actually watch all of this persons videos because I think they are very sound. Be patient with learning proper support and breathing. If you don't already know how to do a low breath, you will need to educate yourself on that before watching these videos. The things you must remember to do is to widen the rib cage and keep it open. It will feel very strange and then become very normal if you just keep doing it. Also, you should go to the technique section of this forum once you start running into some problems. I can try to help you answer more questions if you have them but here are is the first video to watch.

After you watch that video, move through the 13, 14, 15 and 16. Let me know what is giving you trouble and some of the sensations you are feeling when learning this if you can. Also, there are many people on this forum that are far more knowledgeable than me and they will help you as well.

  9. I find this song quite a challenge for me, what is my biggest issue? Support?

I've been singing songs like this for a while now thinking that I just needed to "get used to using head voice" but I'm not sure if that's working.

I don't think this is particularly bad. I think the bigger problems are with tone as opposed to pitch. That being said, I am not that familiar with the song. I do think the support is definitely an issue and you also need to open the throat more.

Felipe, in my opinion, has some of the best advice on support. I would look at some of his posts. If you go to the technique thread and look for his lateral/intercostal support thread I think you will find some really valuable information there. I think the best way to improve tone up higher in your voice is to have more support because with that, you will have the ability to open up the throat more.

In the meantime, I will link some very good support videos. The key here is that if your ribs are not expanded you are not supporting, even if you are doing many of the other things correctly. The first video is a general explanation that you have probably already heard but really focus on the what are happening with the ribs. Again, please visit the thread on lateral/intercostal support by Felipe if you really want to learn how to expand the ribs and back but be careful using his support while singing until it is fully trained. It is a good thing to use to get you in the right coordination but it might be a lot more pressure than you can keep back.

Below is a really solid video series for getting full support. The key thing while looking at everything here is the the ribs never collapse. I had a false sense of support for so long where I was expanding below the ribs but actually using collapsed ribs and that is simply not support.

Start with this video and then go on to watch through video 18.

If you already understand all of this, disregard everything I said here. This is the main problem that I heard from you and I could be wrong.

  10. I think it is a very decent cover and you have a lot of room to work with.

Honestly, I think you are going to hurt yourself with that technique. I hear way too much pressure and you are using way more air than you can support. I did that for awhile and I can tell you that it will not last.

Also, on your verses you are dropping the key really low and it sounds like you are using completely different placements. Instead of one connected voice, it sounds like two completely distinct voices. Again, I used to be this exact same way where I could easily sing in bass notes and then change placements and sing Leto's songs.

On a side note, your Kamelot cover was VERY good and the placements were far more consistent.
