Thanks...I will explore....difference in key and pitch? I'll check into that as well. I appreciate your help. Are these things that can be learned to where my voice would be passable?
Just for comparison....the below is my first attempt at songwriting...more of a fingerpicking folk song?
Which style is better, if either?

Thank you Robert....no vocal coach. I just really started to try to sing. I've accepted the fact that I don't have a strong voice....I don't know what style I'm going for...just trying to be me, I guess. I'm just trying to get to the point where I might get a "passing grade" at an open mic or really just be comfortable singing at a bluegrass jam. Am I on key? Thanks...

Okay gang, still trying to find my voice/style (if it exists)...honest ears are much appreciated.

A few days ago I posted colorado girl and received some feedback, which I did appreciate. Comments indicated it was flat and pitchy. Here is another song-different key....honest ears are appreciated.

I do know that I still lack some confidence in singing louder...still working on that. Didn't use auto tone (what is that?)...just recorded straight from phone-probably not the best but all I have right now. Thank you for the comments.

I'm exactly where you are in terms of goals. I know I'm not the next american idol....I just want to be comfortable around a campfire or even an open mic. the folks on here have been a big help and the advice i got was to find a good vocal coach which I finally did...wish I done that sooner. To my laymen ears, I think you sound just fine and would fit in around any campfire jam session i've ever been in attendance. Your guitar is good and you have a nice tone.Keep at it.

Ok, gang....I've posted a few folky songs and have gotten a lot of good feedback, and, I appreciate all the help. The main thing I'm hearing is that I need to sing the melody more and concentrate more on phrasing...good advice, no doubt. Below is a more bluesy thing...the phrasing seems to come a little more natural to me and to my ear, at least, sounds a little better than my other attempts. The goal I'm shooting for is maybe an occasional open mic and trying to get good enough not to have tomatoes thrown at me :/
Thanks in advance!
attempt at bluegrass...pleeeze critique!
